The typical Seeker is an excellent combatant, able to fight her way through any obstacles in her path that try to prevent her from finding the truth. She is also a learned scholar, mastering dead languages, arcane lore, religious texts, and foreign cultures in order to better understand how the world is interconnected.
The Order was founded by a handful of pureblood Elves based upon a theory that many of the modern religions, customs, fighting techniques, and even the very races themselves are all related, dating back to a common ancestor. The original founding members of the Ishari Lier (a combination of ancient Alfr'eni and saJin languages, translating roughly as "Seekers of Truth") were Alfr scholars who happened upon an incredible discovery that would redefine the history of the world. Everything that had been learned, they claimed, was a lie. Shortly after the discovery, two of the Alfr founders were discovered dead, horribly disfigured.
The remaining five scholars of the Ishari Lier determined not to be frightened away from the path of learning the truth. They trained relentlessly to learn how to protect their discovery, learning the ways of sword, bow, and spear. Believing that they were called to a higher purpose, they developed a system of meditation whereby they could power their bodies with pure positive energy, giving themselves the ability to heal would, detect evil intentions, and even make more powerful attacks. They also took on students to train in the secrets of the Order, training the next generation to carry on the Seekers' quest of finding the truth and protecting their secrets.
Unfortunately, the original discovery of the Order is now lost, along with the five remaining founders. Apprentices of the founders awakened from a strange meditation one evening to find that the founders were gone, along with any mention of the secret discovery made centuries earlier. The apprentices were also affected, for during their daily meditations they had somehow been of any knowledge they had of the Order's secrets. They knew that the secrets existed, but not what the secrets were. This is the great mystery of the Ishari Lier, and the primary goal of the Order: the recovery of the Lost Secrets of the Original Discovery.
Traveling Seekers seek out all kinds of lost lore, and have begun delving into the ancient teachings of the other races, particularly the dwarves, goblins, and humans. Most other races consider the Ishari Lier to be more than a little odd at best and annoying spies at worst. After a particularly bad misunderstanding between a group of Ishari Lier and a Shagir Ancestral Champion over the champion's knowledge of traditional dwarf religion, the Seekers have taken to traveling individually and not wearing any distinguishing markings that would identify them as members of the Order.
The Seekers are not affiliated with any organized religion; the actual religious practices are more freeform and involve deep meditation and a recognition that the power of faith in a greater force of good and truth can actually give strength to the believer. These beliefs are shunned by most people with whom the Ishari Lier come into contact, which is another reason that members of the Order prefer to operate quietly and alone. Few people outside of the Order even know that they exist. Those that do tend to view the Ishari Lier as a group of conspiracy theorists and rabble rousers.
The Ishari Lier know, however, that they have uncovered the beginnings of a deception so foul, so horrific, and so cleverly hidden that they must maintain constant vigilance lest the world itself fall into chaos and ruin.
Very rarely, a group of Seekers will work together on a specific mission that is too great for an individual Seeker to handle. Most often, however, the Seekers work alone, even defining their own missions so long as they feel that they are contributing toward the greater good of finding valuable secrets for the Order.
Sometime around 10th level, a Seeker may be called upon to become one of the five Guardians, the rulers of the Order. These five guardians symbolic of the original five founders, have the ability to call forth the Seekers to meet once a year in the Assembly of Truth. This is basically a gathering of all Seekers to share their discoveries over the past year, and to receive instructions from the Guardians.
