Home The Calendar
The tonist Chuch Oestian Calendar is the most accepted form of calendar on the World Continent at this point in time.  Created by the Pontifex Rex Allextus II around one hundred and thirty-seven years after the foundation of the tonist faith, the tonist Calendar (also known as the Allextian Calendar) is vaguely based on a lunar calenar of twelve months, each of 28 days.  The remaining 16 days of the calendar are divided into four quarterly Festivals roughly corresponding to ancient Venkish pagan Festivals.  The tonists overwrote the pagan overtones of the Festivals by associating each Festival Day with one of the Hallowed Prophets

Note that the actual lunar cycle is closer to 29.33 days, and the solar year is 352 days long.  The tonist Church Oestian Calendar does not account for these differences and therefore the phase of the full moon falls on different days each month.  No steps are currently being taken to correct this, although most serious astrologers chart time using the more accurate Tharri or Eastern calendars.

For better or for worse, most other calendars in the world have adopted tonist time-keeping, even though they still keep their own names for the months and do not celebrate the tonist Festivals.  More information can be found in the Chronicles of Morlund Estrelle on
page 17.  The astute reader will note that Morlund himself seems confused as to the inconsistencies in the calendar.  He does point out that it is based on an ancient, incorrect Venkish calendar but he does not seem to fully grasp how incorrect it is.
