| The Thirty-Seventh Session (7/18/04) - continued | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ghostly white lights, barely visible, float around the top of the platform. Sebastian is wounded, but stands his ground as the other members of the Company rush into the room and prepare for combat. A few well-placed shots from Orongorg's bow do some significant damage to the floating lights, and the combined efforts of the rest of the Company destroy the "creature". At the top of the platform, the Company open a door and continue on into another hallway, encountering another spear trap very similar to the one they encountered a few days ago in another section of the Banevault. Assuming the timing of the spears on this trap will be similar, the members of the Company charge forward, and only Cirend and Orongorg are hit. After several more flights of stairs and a few turns, the Company emerge into a brightly painted area featuring murals and frescoes of golden-armored warriors and a bright blue sky filled with eagles and angelic, celestial wined beings. Although the paint is old, faded, and chipped, the room still fills most of the Company with a sense of peace and serenity. In the middle of the room is a massive marble statue of a winged horse. The Company remember the words of Gerasimos and believe this to be a statue of the pegasus companion of the pre-tonist prophet, Danar. Continuing on into another side room, the Company find an inscription written in an ancient language that pre-dates even the languages that Usoruhihn is familiar with. While he and Sebastian struggle to translate the inscription, the other members of the Company investigate a statue in the corner that appears to be a representation of the prophet, Danar. Once they can place the inscription in the context of being related to Danar, Sebastian and Uso are able to come up with a rough translation: |

| For I see a future day when all the darkness is gone and the taint of evil has been forever banished. Even now, the demons have returned to the Abyss, and the legions of Hell itself fear the light of our worlds day. I have chosen not to slay, not to destroy, but to contain. Just as nature renews itself, the living gaining life from the dead, so too does evil draw upon even that which is destroyed. To crush evil is to free it and let it become a new darkness. A new bane. The banes shall be sealed away. Sealed away, along with their evil essence. Trapped forever. |

| Traveling further inside the Banevault, the Company find one of the magical vault doors which appears to have been recently opened. More intense searching by Orongorg reveals another coarse silver hair near the door, as well as a multitude of footprints entering and exiting the door. While Orongorg is able to detect three distinct set of footprints entering the doorway, he finds that only two sets returned to the hallway. Taking this as a bad sign, the Company move on. Shortly thereafter, they discover a hidden switch which reveals a secret door leading to a shrine of sorts. The room is painted and decorated to appear as an underwater scene, and in the middle of the room is a statue of a beautiful fey-like woman. A bronze plaque on the statue bears the name "Essalada". Again, the Company deduce that this most be a representation of the fey-nymph companion of Danar. Near the back of the room, there is a glass door which leads to a 10' x 10x room which appears to be an airlock of sorts. On the far side of the small room is another glass door which seems to open into a huge tank of water. The Company can spy fish floating around in the water, and near the bottom of the large tank, they seen three dark circular pits in the middle of the floor. Across the tank, opposite the glass door, is another door. After pausing a moment to get their bearings, the Company realize that this room must lie directly above the "pool room" that they entered on the lower level, where they fought the green-skinned hag woman. They realize that if they were to open both glass doors, they could easily flood a large section of this level of the Banevault. Deciding that they have no reason to enter the gigantic tank, they turn around and head back to the north. More searching of this general area reveals a workroom of sorts, filled with rotting tools and the remains of what appears would have been a series of wooden shelves to hold crates of some material. Sebastian also opens a door only to find four large ape-like creatures sleeping inside. Although tempted to sneak around the ape creatures, he thinks better and closes the door. The Company appear to be at a standstill until Sebastian luckily finds a secret door leading to the north. Expertly avoiding a viscious trap, Sebastian finds that the door is beyond his ability to open. Jeremi loosens the door with his power to shape stone, and the rest of the Company push on the iron-reinforced door until it falls to the ground with a loud, thundering crash. Immediately, they hear noises and realize that the ape-creatures are charging for them. They brace for the attack and take quite a beating until Uso uses powerful arcane magick to slow the creatures, enabling the rest of the Company to kill the four-armed apes. |
