Pippin's other close friends consist of Frodo Baggins, and Samwise Gamgee, known as Sam. Merry and Pippin are extra close to each other, just as Frodo and Sam are. In fact, it's practically impossible to mention one without the other, for Merry and Pippin like to follow each other around all the time. Merry and Pippin are also known, (in the movie, not the books) to be quite clumsy, or at least Pippin. Merry and Pippin are both known for pulling pranks on others.
Pippin and Merry were the ones who were responsible for the firework dragon going off and scaring nearly everyone at Bilbo's party. So, that shows what tricksters these two scoundrels really are.
Though, throughout the progression of their journey, they both grow and acquire wisdom. Both hobbits, Peregrin especially, seem to have matured a great deal, as well, for they have gotten a true taste of different cultures and ways of life, other than that of perfect peace.
