| Frodo Baggins is from the race of Hobbits. He comes from a rural place called the Shire, that is made up of large areas of rolling hills and fields, in the town of Hobbiton. He has no parents. They both died when they were out in a boat on the Brandywine river. So, he was adopted by Bilbo Baggins, his cousin, (Frodo was Bilbo's favorite cousin) and taken on later as his heir to Bag-End. Frodo is very good friends with a hobbit by the name of Samwise Gamgee; called by his friends, Sam. Sam is the gardener at Bag-End. His close friends also include Meriadoc Brandybuck, or Merry, and Peregrin Took, or Pippin. In times before their knowledge of the One Ring, they went on adventures through the Shire, and very soon, Frodo started journeying alone, and going off farther every time. Frodo seems to have a lot of Bilbo in him, the adventurous sort of person, which is highly unusual in the Shire. Most hobbits like to stay at home, and just be where they're most comfortable. Now, Frodo's relatives, the Sackville-Bagginses,Otho and Lobelia, have been wanting to claim Bag-End when old Bilbo moved on, so you can see why they were very angry with him when he had produced an heir to Bag-End. For, they had been waiting for over sixty years to take Bag-End! In the books, as well as in the movie, Frodo is described as still wanting the Shire; "In his heart I think Frodo's still in love with the Shire...the woods, fields, distant rivers..." and Frodo admitted it to Sam as Sam was getting packed and ready for their venture home from Rivendell."The Ring will be safe in Rivendell...I am ready to go home.." Which makes me wonder...did he really get the wanting for home from Bilbo...or did Frodo's parents feel the same way; wanting to venture off... yet still yearning for home? |
