Canada First is the title of Sam Stajfer's (pronounced Staifer) CD. This CD is a tribute to Canadians and to Canadian unity. Sam is truly a patriotic Canadian. Born in Yugoslavia, he immigrated to Canada at age six, and has adopted this country as his own.

Canada First was written on October 1, 1995, the eve of the Quebec Referendum. Watching the Yes vote fluctuate between 49% and 51%, Sam felt compelled to write this patriotic song as his small contribution to keeping Canada together.

In Sam's opinion, our multicultural character is a unique and important aspect of our national identity. Thus, Canada First celebrates multiculturalism as a virtue and promotes recognition of our varied traditions. Canada First reminds us that Canadians have always been proud of their heritage. This song captures the excitement of our past, the richness and subtlety of our history and the very spirit of being truly Canadian. It unifies all people in celebrating a love and respect for our country.

Sam has written over three hundred songs ranging from folk to contemporary music and soft rock. His musical influences include Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen. Sam began his musical career in London, Ontario in the late 1970s. He has played at numerous clubs and has performed in live concerts at both local and provincial levels. A review by Chris Woodall, a former musical reviewer for the Gazette Staff, states that "Stajfer delivers delightful folk, combining competent lyrics with artful picking".

Sam has received numerous accolades for his song writing ability. In 1984, Sam entered the prestigious American Song Festival and won an Honourable Mention for his original song I Can See Her. Sam also appeared as the opening act for Juno Award winners, David Bradstreet and Brent Titcomb. Sam has made several appearances on Cablecast's "Canadian Folk" program. As well, he has performed at London's Home County Folk Festival, London New Arts Festival, Sunfest ,Canada Day Celebration at Victoria Park and most recently at Studio Celtia. Included in this concert was the debut performance of Divided Loyalties,, about the hockey rivalry between the Canadiens and the Leafs. .
