DIVIDED LOYALTIES

When I was young and growing up
I’d watch hockey on t.v.
Saturday night I’d stay up late
With my family
My momma was a Leaf’s fan
My dad cheered for the Habs
And when they’d win we’d celebrate
It was the best time that we had

We cheered for the Habs and we cheered for the Leafs
We prayed they’d never lose
But when they played each other
It was difficult to choose
We cheered for the Habs and we cheered for the Leafs
I cheered for Bobby Orr
For he was a greater player
Than anyone before

In high school I would walk the halls
And let everybody know
That Lafleur scored the winning goal
And Dryden stole the show
When Sittler had a ten point night
I’d wear the white and blue
But the greatest game I ever saw
Was team Canada seventy two

Now I have a little son
He’s learning how to skate
He’s learning how to shoot and score
Like I did in sixty eight
He wears both hockey sweater
For everyone to see
He’s dough gilmour and the Rocket
He’s divided just like me

Now he cheers for Wayne Gretzky
He’s broken every record
He’s as great as great can be
