"Everyone on that team (The Bronxville Bombers) stinks, except that second baseman (Nick Dicostanzo) - he's a real ballplayer." - , Brian Connelly, (Also Head Coach of the '98, '99, '00, New York State Football Champion, Edgemont Panthers.)
A versatile ball player, "Dico" began his career at shortstop and has also pitched and played a successful left field, until his transition to first base in
2002.  "Nick D" has given the Clippers much needed stability at first and as always provides quite a punch at the plate, posting career high Runs, Hits and RBI in 2002.  Nick's classic homeruns to right-centerfield are as recognizable an individual signature as there is in the league.  His game-winning two-out, two-run single in the epic extra-inning 2002 Semi-final game against the Dragons is a career highlight.  He enjoys cleaning his boat, arguing and drinking watered down brew.
Since his departure for grey'er skies in our Nations Capital, Nick D's games played have decreased, but dont let that fool you.  He remains as hungry and as dedicated a teammate and Clipper any Clam member could hope for....
It is also Nick D and his beloved family who provide accommodations for most of the 13 Clippers.  Without their generosity, there would be no Clipper ship to take us to the Promised Land.  Well, the ship would be there, but it would suck. And sink. Yea that's right.  Anywho, Great Thanks goes to the Dicostanzo family from all of us.

2B - #24 - Teddy Nagagast - Disgruntled with the operation over in the Excitables camp, "Special" Ted signed a free-agent contract with the Clippers in June of 1999, mainly for the opportunity to play with his lovely wife Jenny.  "Teddy Ballgame" made his impact felt immediately by becoming one of the most consistent Clippers.  He has pitched excellently for the Clips, as well as, performed shortstop and second base duties.  His game has only improved since joining the team and he has quietly become one of the most feared left handed bats in the league.  His fierce competitiveness is displayed both at the plate, where he demonstrates his mastery of Saltaire League pitching with towering special doubles, and on the field where his leadership and defensive skill is vital to the Clippers organization.  Teddy's 10 Doubles during his monsterous 2002 Championship campaign are a Single Season Clipper Team Record and his 34 Doubles overall leads the Clipper All Time list.   His .514 BA, and 21 runs indicate just how integral he was to that inital title and how he and Newman carried the team to the Championship.  Ted's biggest hit, among a sea of big hits, came in the 2006 Championship Game.  Down 5-0 to start the contest, the Clippers would chip away and eventually win thier fourth Championship.  The victory was due in MOST part to Teddys HUGE, dramatic, team-lifting 2-out, 2-run clutch HR  to announce the comeback and bring the boys back within one at 5-4.  Teddy has led or tied for the team in doubles in 4 out of the last 6 years.  His .383 Lifetime Average is indicitive of his constant consistancy and his steadying hand anchoring the Clipper lineup. Teddy has also been impecably durable, missing only sporadic games over the past 6 years.  A true Clipper Staple and father of 3 young Clipper farm hands.  He is also the reining king of off-season forwards and his community work is also greatly admired 'cause he does some sh#t with little kids....

SS - #15 - Matt Newman - Original Clipper - 2002 & 2004  League HR CHAMPION - Trifecta -
Most often compared to Mark McGuire, the "MAMMOTH's" dominance is glaring.  A complete BEAST at the plate, Newman is the Clippers all time leader in
HR's and RBI.  His 27 RBI in 2002 is a Single Season Clipper Record and his 86 overall lead the Clipper All Time Record.  In 2004, Mammoth had a redonkulous season.  His reputation clearly preceding him, he was walked a Clipper Single Season Record 11 times, and still managed to blast 7 HR's, leading the team and the league.   His On-Base Percentage of .667, equivalent to reaching base an ABSURD 2 out of 3 times at-bat, is an All-Time Clipper Record that will be as unlikely to be broken as Joe Dimaggio's 56 game Hit Streak, or Cy Youngs 511 Major League Wins.  His Ruthian homeruns, none more INSANE than the Walk-off, "Never-Landing BOMB" he hit against the Dragons on Fan Appreciation Day 2003, are things of beauty and it is his very presence in the lineup that can change the course of a game.  Newman's 40th Career HR, also a Clipper All-Time Record (47), was equally as important and just a clutch, tying the 2005 Championship Game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd.  In his strong 2006 campaign, he hit yet another Classic HR again on Fan Appreciation day, blasting a bottom of the 7th, 2-out, 3-run walk-off tape-measure shot to pull out an improbable come-from-behind, 5-3 win against the rival Bulkheads. Newmans 2 walk-offs are tied with Bier for most all time.  Not enough can be said about the heart of the Clipper offense.  His die-hard loyalty to his team is unmatched even by his thirst for the taste of Jack Daniels or human flesh.  His defense is also spectacular, on par with the best shortstops in the league.  This is all of course provided he makes it to the games, alcoholic misadventures being another category in which he excels.  His off the field antics never so on display as at his good friend CF Bier's bachelor party.  Here, he coined the quintessential Newman line 'we gotta get outa here' and did his best Lou Gehrig "Luckiest Man" Speech impersonation with his own formidable "You Idiots, A.C." yarn.
If you hear the cry of "Whoop-WOoo" late in the kismet night, you'd best run for the hills, for a Newman stalks amoungst you.

3B #7 - Adam Kupersmith - Original Clipper - One of the premier defensive third-basemen in the league since his debut in 1994, Kupersmith also possesses a keen sense of the game.  His hitting prowess is known around the Island and in 2003 experienced an unprecedented surge.  When moved into the "four" spot in the lineup, in late 2003, Adam A's responded with 4 titanic and impactual bombs that virtually carried the Clippers through the playoffs and onto the Championship.  He also made the smartest heads up play in Clipper History in the 2003 Championship Game, when he made an extra inning, bases-loaded step-on-the-3rd base bag & throw home double-play to save the Clippers season and eventually the Championship. "Kupe-dog" provides consistency and stability both on the field and at the plate.  A veritable modern-day Renaissance man, Kupersmith excels at Softball, Guitar, Skiing and cutting up cadavers named "Bob". His career carried him to sunny California beginning with the 2005 season, but his spirit maintained with his mates, and in 2008 they look to regain the steady, consistent bat belonging to the Ad-Rock.

LF - #6 - Andrew Sosa - Original Clipper - "The Lightning Uruguarian", as he is so aptly called, has been an offensive force for the Clippers since their inception. He is the "Iron Man" of the Clippers playing in every game since the inaugrual 1994 season. He was part of the pitching experiment disaster, and then became the everyday centerfielder for 5 years until his move to left to accommodate the younger Brian Bier.   Sosa recently banished the ghosts that had troubled him in the early part of this century and turned it on big time during his re-break-out-comming-out- 2003 campaign.  He put to bed the allegations that his deplitating disease, SuperLazyosopholifus, had stricken him permenantly and robbed him of his ability to perform.  Sosa stormed back on the sceen banging a career high 3 dingers in 2003, none more important than his bottom of the sixth game winner in the in the first round of the playoffs against the Excitables.  His clutch and productive exploits earned him the 2003 Comeback Player of the Year award.  Chancho originally prefered odd years batting over .300 in '03/'05 but vastly under in '02/'04, but turned that around in '06 putting a solid three year string together from '05-'07.  He remains very much below the radar, but still manages to surprise as was the case in a 2007 game against the Fringe.  In a Classic spanish speaking ball-player performanace, Sosa showed that its only a matter of motivation keeping him from the upper eschelon.  Just as in the Majors when a player is in his 'walk-year' Sosa only required the call of his belly and the prospect of an extra inning affair bleeding into his lunchtime.  The big boy Chanched a bottom of the 7th Walk-Off dong to dramatically finish off the Fringe.  Like running through the tunnel after a game-winning field goal, Sosa neglected to celebrate with his teammates at home plate but instead dashed for his own home, hoping his meal would still be warm.  He is a Chancho-de-Chancho and no one can ever take that away from him. Oh yea, he plays a mean left field.

CF - #21 - Brian Bier - 2003 Homerun King - An off-season acquisition in the winter of 2002, also from the Excitables (boy we sure raped them didn't we?), Bri is THE, if not REALLY THE best defensive centerfielder in the league.  With an absolute Cannon for an arm, Bier leads the universe in assists.  Dispite his mild mannered appearance, Bier utilizes a fire burning deep inside his loins to cover more ground than a gazell in heat flying across the Sahara.  The Late, Great, Met announcer, Bob Murphy, was heard to remark of his defensive skills, "3/4 of the earth is covered by water, the other 1/4 is covered by Brian Bier". His prowess at the plate is also staggering, as he led the League in dongs in 2003 notching a career high 8 in nine regular season games and set a Single Season Clipper Team Record with 10 HR overall.  His 62 runs, 25 walks and .416 BA lead the Clippers All-Time.  Bier's TWO solo HR's helped seal the 2005 Championship Game against the Bulkheads.  He had a REDONKULOUS 2006, leading the team in runs and hits, and batting an absurd .540, third best in Clipper history. He also had an inhuman 8-8 hit streak, that could have been as high as 10-10 depending on when his hits came in the game prior.  Bier hit his second walk-off dong in 2007, a tenth inning clutch bomb against the 'Fish.  A five tool ball player, Bier is well regarded as the final piece to the perplexing puzzle that is the Clam and it was his enthusiasm, athletisism and grittyness that proved to be the catalyst in achieving the team's recent Dynastic run..

SF - #2 - Jenny Nagagast - Original Clipper - The lovely Jenny Ballgame spearheaded the movement to make the Clippers a more TV friendly enterprise.  With her stylish moves in the outfield, Jenny added a touch of much needed grace and dignity to an otherwise rabscrabble bunch of rablerousers. Long regarded as the finest short-centerfielder in the league, Jennys consistency at the plate has earned her league-wide respect.  Jenny brings energy and die hard enthusiasm to every game she plays and through thick and thin has remained a staple in the Clipper lineup.  Jenny had an incredible game saving catch on a scorching line drive in the 2003 Championship game.  She posted Career Highs and League Female Historical Highs in 2005 with 12 hits and a .333 AVG. Possessing an incredible head for the game, Jenny also doubles as lead scout and developer of new talent.  She is in the process of grooming three young Clippers as we speak, though for legal reasons we can disclaim to you nothing.  So stop asking.  We mean it.

OF/EH - #3 - Matt Lipinsky - Trifecta - Matty joined the Clippers in April of 1998 to offset the departure of LF Daniel Appel.  In his steed he has performed mightily as a second-baseman, right fielder and at various other positions.  His first powerful moment came against the Fringe in 2000, when he launched a two-run blast over the right-centerfield fence to give the Clippers a 9-8 lead in a back and forth match that would unfortunately end in a Clippers loss.  Thanks a lot Clarkin, and fat-ass who hit the dinger.  His more stately and effectual HR came in the 2003 semi-final game against the rival Dragons, when Matty "splintered" a 3-run BLAST over the left field fence to put the Clippers ahead for good. In 2005 he tied for Team Lead in Walks. More importantly, he made the Single Greatest Defensive Play in the history of the Clam in the 2005 Championship Game.  Covering for the missing Cucci at 3rd, Lipinsky made the most amazing and clutch stab in SSL history.  Full extention dive to his left on an absolute lazer-hit ground ball, he stabbed a wicked high hop at the full apex of his dive and managed to tag out a bewildered Feely running for third for an incredible GAME SAVING, and Championship Sealing defensive marvel.  'Splits' has steadily increased his out-put, posting career hights in 2006.  Also in '06, he hit a HUGE 3-run come-from-behind-take-the-lead bomb against the Fringe capping off an hard fought Clam comeback.  In '07 his shining moment came when he correctly adjusted the batting order to steal a win against the Dragons. His 2005 off-field antics were chronicalled in the storyline that bears his name following each recap of the 2005 season, and believe me his stories are worth thier weight in Smokey Trolls.  His "Barach" style of play has earned him many an accolaid, and coined him many a phrase, non so endearing as "the little cocksucker".

RF/EH - #22 - Brian Sosa - "Big Brother Bri"  started his career at first base and remained there until 2002 where due to defensive difficulties he moved himself to right field.   His defensive troubles have been made less obvious as his ability at the plate has improved over the past few seasons.  He had his most productive season to date in 2007, notching career bests in Walks, Hits, At-Bats and runs.  "One Moment in Time" is his credo, an anthem that pushes him to compete at the highest level at all times.  His skill on the field is only outshined by his desire to consume meat-related products, which is in turn only bested by his ever-expanding craving to "PAATY".

OF/IF - #4 - Mathew McAllister - Original Clipper - Matty Mac, "The Utility Mick", is the younger brother of not one, but two of the disagreeable and rival Bulkheads.  The bloodline is strong in this one, and Matty has been as invaluable as any Clipper.  Starting in virtually every position and proving to be exceptional at every one, Matt has contributed in every fashion for his beloved Clippers.  His famous 'Matty-Mac Spike' on an angry ground ball in 2004 is emblimatic of his ferocity.  Matt brings a special intensity to the Clips, a more subdued/intoxicated love for the game.  His dedication is unmatched, but if he cant make a game, he doesnt want to hear it, Clarkin.  In his off-time he makes people laugh, he can be seen hobnobbing at the infamous New York State Club, "Da Yacht Club".  And if his comedy stylings are up your alley, you can catch him Thursdays at "The Turkish" on 47th and Broadway.  A two drink minimum applies. - No Monkeys.

C - #9 - Charlie Kaufman - Original Clipper - "Il Capitino", The Captain, Charlie Ks has K'd in more games than any other Clipper.  He has also won the Most Improved Player of the Saltaire Softball League two years running as his he is in the Clipper top 9 in RBIs and Batting Average - he's ninth.  In the Clippers first Championship game in 2002, the Captain willed his team to victory.  In the biggest game he had ever played in, he had his best game ever.  He blasted a huge, clutch, run scoring double off the fence and finished the day 3-3 with an RBI against the best pitcher in the league in the sports biggest stage.  In 2005, Chuck posted career highs in Hits, Runs, RBI's and Doubles and nailed the coffin on the Dragons in the Semi's with a clutch 3-Run Blast.  He is well regarded by his pitcher, who credits him with much of his and the teams success for his steadying play behind the plate.  Game in and game out, fans will not mistake his gravely voice letting the opposition know where they can stick it.  His Fair/Foul calls are by far the most accurate in the league as his gracious parents raised him on a strict policy of fair play.  The Captains dedication to the Clippers infects his whole family as both his brother (Maxwell) and sister (Sarah) have donned Clipper attire at one time or another and his father is a very secretive and generous benefactor of said Clippers.  Thanks, Mr. K.

P - #5 Christopher Clarkin - Original Clipper - Trifecta - "The Troll" has played several positions, his defensive ability being comparable to that of a veritable "Vacuum".  He spent most of his career in left field until one fateful Saturday morning in August of 2000, he took to the mound after years of watching Clipper hopes dashed before the game had even begun.  In 2000, his bid to end the Clipper losing streak at only 52 games came up short against the Fringe, as the forever-engrained in the minds of Clippers everywhere, no-named fatty blasted a two-run dinger to win it in the bottom of the seventh.  Clarkin did finally end the Clipper losing streak at 54 when the boys dropped the Dogfish in the season opener of the 2001 season. In the 2003 Championship against the Bulkheads, Clarkin knocked in the game winning run in the 9th inning overtime affair.  In 2005, Clarkin set two Single Season Clipper All-TIme Team Records with 23 hits and a .548 batting average.  He also led the League with 9 Doubles, one off the Team Record 10 set by Teddy in 2002.  His, and the team's, final hit of the year was also a double: A bottom of the seventh, walk-off, 2005 Championship game winning right field Special Double that propelled the boys to thier 3rd Championship over the Bulkheads, 7-6.  In his finest season to date, the pitcher led the team in Walks, Hits, Doubles and Batting Average.  In '06 he led the team in Walks.  In '07 Clarkin again led the team in Walks, his third straight season doing so, and fourth in 6 years.  He also led the Clippers in At-Bats for the fourth year in six, as well as in Runs, Hits and he tied for OBP. His 84 hits and 227 At-Bats pace the All-Time Clipper Record.  The Troll also starts every morning game with a toasted bagel with butter, which can later be found up to 48 hours later sizzling on the bleachers with only one bite taken, a very Troll like caracteristic.

3B - # 17 - John Cucci - Cucci arrived in the offseason of '04-'05 as a replacement for the departing Adam A's.  A long time Clipper friend, his lust for all things Fair Harbor kept him from joining the Clippers for over 11 years.  He finally and reluctantly agreed to join the Clippers thanks to insecent nagging by team managment.  Cucci caught the Saltaire fever after winning the Basketball tourney two years in a row and was thereby persuaded by team officials to go after the unprecedented and coveted title of two sport Saltaire Champion.  Always after a challenge, and an excuse to drink, Cucci is heralded by SS Matt Newman to be, "better than I am".  In his first full season, Cucci battled his newcomer teammate Sam Patel for Rookie of the Year honors. Cucci belted a Regular Season Team High 6 dongs (tying w/ Bier) and led the team with 21 RBI's overall, primarily out of the four hole.  Afer a comparatively semi-sophomore slump in '06, Cucci came back strong in '07, leading the team in RBI, HR's and tied with Clarkin for OBP. "J-Rod", ever the aspiring athlete, chose to partake in some ridiculous decathelon mid-way through the summer.  Despite practically killing himself, he was able to play, albeit looking absurdly pale, in the following game.  Later, he had his biggest offensive Clipper moment in the 2007 Semi-Finals against the Dragons.  He blasted 2 huge HR's, accounting for 4 RBI out of the 5 Clipper runs, and jetisoned the Clam into their 5th final in 6 years.  But in this crazy mixed up league, as big a thumper Cucci has become, it is his UNEARTHLY defense that is his biggest attribute.  And considering his offensive stats, MORE than solid year in and year out, thats quite a statement.  Cucci is BY FAR, the best defensive third baseman in the league, making obscene scoops fluidly and with ridiculous ease ....Lets just hope his penchent for late-night debachery doesnt get the better of his dedication...

1B - # - Matt Cucci - The younger brother of the touted 2005 Rookie of the Year Clipper Jon Cucci, Matt Cucci joined the Clip-Joint in 2006.  Gregarious and jovial, M-Cuc shows up for every game with a big smile, a thurst for victory and a need for hydration after his prior evening of Fair Harbor debachery.  He posted good numbers in his first regular season in 2006, seeing limited action due to his 'new-commer' status.  Always a professional, Matt baited his time and took advantage when finally given the opportunity to shine.  He kept his hunger for more playing quiet so as not to disrupt team chemistry, always understanding he needed to 'earn it'.  Cucci, however couldn't hold back from demonstrating his moxie before the 2006 Championship game.  When told it was likely he would come in mid-way during the contest rather than start, M-Cuc, brazenly, but affably declared, "Good. I want to come in late and contribute with some late-inning heroics."
Quite a bold statment for a rookie.  But did he ever produce.  The brawny First Baseman came up HUGE in the
2006 Championship Game blasting the go-ahead RBI double (if all remember, scoring a BEWILDERED Andrew Sosa all the way from First!!!) and ultimatly going 2-2 with a ridiculous 3 RBI.  M-Cuc had given notice to the league that he was a force to be reckoned with, in a clutch, spolight-on-him situation and he announced his presence to the league with authority.  He followed that blast-on-the-scene performance by stroking an obscene 8 Doubles in his first full season, 2007.  He led the team and the league in doubles, most being towering shots over the right field fence that would have gone for Homers had he been a righty.

OF - # - Sam Patel - A 2005 addition as well, Slammin' Sammy enters the Clipper lineup to offset the departure of another Clipper staple, Nick D.  With big shoes to fill, Sam plans on taking the league by storm.  His lifelong dream to play in the Saltaire Softball League has finally come true and was made possible by a fateful introduction to Brian "wet blanket" Bier.  Co-workers, and now Fire Island Roomates (not as gay as it sounds), the two gazell-like hombre's patrol the outfield like true robotic Wall Street Banco-de-American dorks.  Early struggles in the field did not deterred young Sammy, as he lead the team in onbase percentage and knocked in 11 runs on 12 hits on the year.  Sammy "Singles", as he started out being called, knocked out that dubious nomenclature by belting 2 HR's and a Franchise single game playoff record 6 RBI in the Semi-Final game agaisnt the Dragons.  As he follows suit with Bier on the field, he as of yet agrees with his roomate's lack of PAAATY dedication as well, as Slammin Sammy has been seen for all of half a minute in Da Yacht Club.

2B/SS/OF - #33/#79 - Phil Abelson - Philly, Husband to the lovely Becky Sanger, herself a Clippers supporter since 1995,  joined the Clippers in 2007.  The Team liked what they saw out of his successful rookie season playing for the Dogfish, and signed him to a tender-offer sheet that the rebuilding 'Fish refused to match.  He slugged an impressive 4 HR's in his inaugural season in the league, but was bounced around in the field and actually asked to split time despite being by far the best player on the depleted Dogfish squad.  More at home with his age-mates and Becky's old friends, the Clippers, Phil slid in nicely after the departure of All-World SS Matt "Mammoth" Newman.  Phil played mostly at 2nd base, displaying vacumess skills and steadfast dedication, often comming out to the beach soley to play the game and depart on the next ferry out of town.  While his homerun and RBI totals were not what they were the year prior, he impressively led the team with a .379 BA in his first year.  Phil's deadication to his new team was obvious from the start, a trait which all of Clipper-Nation attached itself to. His Team dedication was matched only by his dedication to J.G. Mellons on 74th st, and his inabilty to perfrom the most simple of texting or email tasks.
