The Struggle Continues - The events leading to March 16, Incident

May 31, 1999

 Jamil Al-Amin is stopped while driving in Marietta Cobb county, Georgia. Arrested for having no proof of insurance, theft by receiving stolen property (the car he was driving) and impersonating a police officer. Released on $1,000 bond. Al-Amin presented evidence from Mayor of Whitehall, Alabama explaining his appointment to auxiliary police force. Submitted affidavits that countered “theft by receiving” (stolen car charge).

January 28, 2000 

Scheduled for trial. A storm causes the Superior Court of Cobb County to experience delays in calendar calls. No further notification concerning the case is received by Imam Jamil or his lawyer.

March 16, 2000

Two Fulton county deputies came to Imam’s former business to serve warrant for Cobb County. Shooting erupts, one deputy dies. Surviving deputy claims he shot the shooter in the stomach area.

March 20, 2000 

Imam Jamil taken into custody in Whitehall Alabama UNWOUNDED.

March 29, 2000

Al-Amin indicted on 13 counts of felony murder by Fulton Grand Jury.

April 21, 2000 

Imam Jamil Al-Amin is extradited to Cobb County after hearing.

May 4, 2000 

Fulton County Prosecutor announces that they are seeking Death Penalty.
