Every day in our lives, we try to mitigate risk and provide opportunities for our loved ones.  It’s in our blood to protect those we care about.  That’s why we walk or drive our children to our good schools when we can, we keep loved ones away from danger, and we make sacrifices and hardships to move our loved ones to neighborhoods like Redwood Shores.  Keeping treated wastewater away from the ones we love is critical to the future of Redwood Shores and is critical to avoiding potential long-term health issues and increasing tax liabilities, liabilities we bare a burden for, yet do not benefit proportionately.

While many of us believe this, your tax dollars and public resources are currently being put to use against you in this fight to keep treated wastewater out of the Shores.  We need your help and support in communicating our concerns and priorities to elected officials at all levels.  Every voice counts and will make a difference.

By sharing your voice, you ultimately:

1.                Conserve water by reducing the strain on our water supply (Hetch Hetchy) that future developments will add to if we “free up” water by using treated wastewater.

2.                Convince Redwood City Council members to hear voter concerns and not the lobbyist of developers who have run out of water supply and are willing to “risk” your health for their profits.

3.        Create a 2003/4 election year issue for your local representatives who seek your vote.

If you believe that fighting to keep treated wastewater(treated sewage) out of your front lawns, parks, playgrounds, schools is a worthwhile cause (i.e. your “common areas” in your HOA’s), then please take the following actions:

1.  Ask your HOA Board to pass a resolution that expresses your rejection of recycled sewer water in your own HOA.  For more info, please e-mail Safewater Coalition at [email protected]

2. You should be careful as to whom you elect to represent Redwood Shores at an organizational or council level.  See The Independent Newspaper article, “Council: Recycled Water among top issues”.
