Stand Up Sacramento!
Home | Demonstration Reports | Participate | Contact | LinksOrganize an event:
Besides the events we have listed, we encourage others to follow our guidelines and setup your own. You can organize your own protest or counter demonstration using our guidelines or modify them to your situation. All events need to keep people safe and represent our community. We may work with you to help get the the word out, post it on standupsac.com and help with organization if needed. Demonstrations of just a single person, if done right, can have a huge impact.
Division of labor and organizing an event:
• Protestors! Simply gather with us, hold signs, and standup for yourself! Please dress respectfully, not just for shock value, although no dress code will be enforced. Remember, you are representing not only your individuality, but our entire community. The greatest thing you need to do is to exercise restraint. You will be baited by our opposition and we need to stay in control. When the media shows up, turn them to the spokesperson whenever possible.
•Team leaders. At larger events, or in situations where our group will be split to multiple locations, we will assign a team leader to smaller groups. We will have 2 types of groups. Anchored groups that stay at a location, and satellite groups, that will extend outward past a group that we may be counter-protesting.
• Emergency/Security. You need to be ready to stop problems before they become one and do what is needed to keep everything peaceful.
• Medical. You need to have a first-aid kit and medical training. Hopefully we will never need your services, except for the occasional sunburn.
• Video/Camera. Keep the shots coming for future use and safety. Our opponents will be reluctant to do anything towards us on film as demonstrated in the video from July 9th. Put a camera in someone's face and they usually leave. The videos may also be used as evidence if a crime is committed.
• Spokespeople. When the news shows up, who is going to speak for us? If a spokesperson is not available, group leaders should interact with the media.
• Facilitator and Organizer. Distribute signs, gather supplies, and making sure everyone is comfortable.
