The Saco Bay Gardening Club was founded in 2001 by a group of local residents to promote and inspire home gardening. Our club provides a forum for gardeners to share information, experience, materials, and activities related to gardening.
Our members range from beginners to experts. Full- or part-time residents from Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard Beach, and surrounding areas are welcome to join. Our meetings are held the first Thursday of each month in the Deering Room at Dyer Library in Saco at 6:00 pm. Meeting agendas include guest speakers, seasonal crafts workshops, plant swaps, private tours of members' gardens, and getting to know each other. We also schedule activities and outings between meetings such as field trips to flower shows, garden tours, specialized nurseries, and celebration potlucks.
2007 GARDEN TOUR The Saco Bay Gardening Club will be hosting a summer garden tour to be held in June, instead of our usual July date. This will enable us to focus on roses and early summer flowers. We have four gardens lined up in Biddeford, along with six in Saco.
ROSE GARDEN AT SACO MUSEUM In spring of 2006, the SBGC installed a David Austin rose garden in front of the entrance to the Saco Museum. The roses really took off their first summer and bloomed nonstop until fall. All the varieties planted are fragrant.
PLANT SALE Will again be held at Dyer Library in May. Check in spring for more details. Daylilies, irises, and many other perennials will be offered for sale, most plants $3.00. |
