This is my original hobby. How did I get into this? Well, when I was a kid, I used to play war games with my friends. The ESCI and Airfix kits were cheap so we were pitting armies against each other. With the backyard as a battlefield we would line up these plastic soldiers and tanks and we would take turns throwing small stones at them. The guy with the most soldiers standing would be the winner. As we grew older, my friends lost interest in them. I, on the other hand, went a step further. I wanted to paint them and make them look realistic. I was a geeky loner in my teens so, painting figures as a hobby came naturally. During summer I would be locked up in my room painting hundreds of figures. I even had a long tabletop battlefield where I would play war games by myself. My scale preference was 1/72nd because they were cheaper and command a small tabletop real estate. As I grew older, going to college and finding a job, my main goal in the hobby was to make my painting as accurate and authentic as possible. My heroes at the time were Shepard Paine and Francois Verlinden. I would constantly go through the pages of their publications. Trying to absorb as much technique as possible.

I entered my first competition in the Philippines. My entry was a 1/72nd scale diorama (click on the link below for more info and pictures). I won top place in the category! Then, I moved to the U.S. My interest in the hobby grew and grew. Scale models are even more affordable here in the U.S. Then I discovered Southern California Area Historical Miniature Society or SCAHMS. I went to one of their annual show and managed to enroll in Shepard Paines painting class! I got to meet the master! Though my interest is still in 1/72nd scale, it was suggested in the class to try to paint in larger scales. Thats were I got introduced to 1/16th and 1/35th. It was also through SCAHMS that I got to know of other masters like Bill Horan, Young Won, Doug Cohen and John Rosengrant.

As of the moment, I have not worked on any projects. 1998, I worked with Sculpey to create my 1/35th scale vignette. I found out that I have an allergic reaction to it. To date, I still carry the symptoms on my hands. It was unfortunate because I know I can create a lot of good dioramas with the material. I am more busy nowadays collecting Militaria and Action Figures.
