Health care reform activists are only just beginning to tap the power of publishing on the World Wide Web. The technical ease, low distribution cost, and global audience of Web publishing are its greatest assets; virtually any activist can create a basic Web site, accessible to anyone connected to the Internet, for little more than the cost of a basic Internet account (about $30/month). However, the accessibility of Web publishing often means that much of the material published on the Web is haphazardly designed, poorly organized,
and not targeted at a specific audience.
That said, there are some simple things you can to do to make your Web pages more visually appealing, better organized and more valuable to visitors, and to increase the impact of your online presence. This document is not a comprehensive guide to either the technical or editorial aspects of Web publishing; however, it does offer some concise tips on various aspects of both content and design for health care reform activists and organizations taking their first steps into online publishing.
