Organisation

The supreme governing body in IES is the Council which comprises 25 (voting) Council Members and Honorary (non-voting) Council Members who are all the living Past Presidents of the Institution. the 25 voting Council Members, the President and the three Vice-Presidents are elected by the Council of the previous session. The Immediate Past President and his 3 predecessor also hold voting seats on the Council. The other 18 Council Members are elected by secret ballots among all Corporate Members, with their disciplines divided among Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and a fourth category which may be filled by engineers from any discipline, except that not more than two of the 18 Council Members may be co-opted from any engineering discipline.

IES operations are supported by a full time Secretriat. The secretariat reports to the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer who together supervise the day-to-day running of the Institution and its financial affairs.

All Council Members chair the 26 committees which carry out the activities of IES with the support of the Secretariat and Committee Members. (extracted from IES website)
