Mission
Mission Statement
As the national society of engineers for the advancement
of engineering in Singapore, our mission is to advance and
to promote the science, art and the profession of engineering
for the well-being of mankind.
And to achieve these objectives, the Institution shall:
IES is the premier engineering Institution in Singapore and is called upon by the Government to provide feedback on professional engineering matters. This is evidenced by the large numbers of government committees on which IES members sit. IES sees this as a crucial role since there is no other learned body in Singapore that can represent all engineers in serving the national interest. Our strategy is to do this is to reach out to as many qualified engineers as possible in all sectors of our economy, to conduct activities that will draw them to want to become part of IES, and to establish strategic links with specialised international institutions to ensure we are plugged into the global network of technology advances. IES is also well represented among the faculty members of the major engineering institutions of higher learning in Singapore. This includes National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic. Through seminars, courses and publications, IES works with these institutions to advance engineering education in Singapore. Furthermore, IES lecture is being held every year by inviting eminent members of the profession to deliver talks on issues and topics of national interest that concerns the engineering profession. IES is moving to accredit major engineering organisations in Singapore to provide for simplified paths to membership for engineers trained in these accredited organisations. At the same time, IES does not forget its responsibility to help those who are less fortunate. The Community Service Committee help the needy by organising activities such as donations to the Student Care Service, regular visits to old folk's homes and outings for Children's Homes. The Committee has been providing personalised community services for the Aged, Breakthrough Mission Drug Rehabilitation Centre, and the Singapore Boys Home. (extracted from the IES website)
