About IES

Introduction

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore was formally established in July 1966 as the national society of engineers in Singapore. As at 15 March 1999, the Membership Roll of the Institution stood at 7629 members comprising 12 Honorary Fellows, 222 Fellow, 3159 Members, 2621 Graduates, 1508 Students and 107 Associates.

Corporate Membership of IES signifies recognition of engineering experience and accomplishments and is taken into consideration by the Professional Engineers Board in registration as practising Professional Engineers in Singapore. In recognition of the status of IES as that national society of engineers, three seats on the Professional Engineers Board are reserved for IES nominees who are generally Fellows of the Institution. IES maintains close links with professional organisations of engineers throughout the world, These include organisations in the ASEAN countries as well as the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. The Institution also represents Singapore in the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) in promoting goodwill and fellowship among all engineers in ASEAN.
