"Mars has all the resources necessary to support life"
Robert Zubrin

"Going to mars is not just something that can be done by some future generation it is something we can do today." Robert Zubrin

"Given what we know today about human psychology, sociology, group interactions, effects of diversity, cultural influence, environmental impact, psychological profile of ideal candidates for mars based on living conditions, etc- I believe an accurate prediction can be made.
.........
The other side is nature, the environment. How will confined spaces affect the psychological profile of people? How will the constant need for safety prescaussion affect society and their needs for individual liberty- which society will succeed the best, one that creates well rounded safety measure, or one that allows individuals to runamok leaving the air locvk open? Aqua culture

It is true that people can live on a plant based diet. That doesn't change the fact that people like meat and food is an important part of their life. Aqua culture allows the growth of seafood in a small amount of space for human consumption.

Roman Vaults

The safest structure to build on mars is a vault. Both the brick the vault is made of and the material that is pilled on top of it to hold the pressure will produce a considerable protective barrier. These structures will effectively be a bomb shelters. The vaults can be arranged in square arraignments with a central courtyard where light filters down through a sky light.

(note* The following pictures and descriptions are taken from Mars Project Renderings Both the pictures and descriptions are produced by Captian Rich)
The first rendering shows the construction of the first three vaults in an excavated trench 4 meters deep. The vaults are constructed atop a 2 meter base of portland cement.
The next rendering shows the completed set of raw vaults.
These two rendering show the vaults buried under 2 meters of sandbagged regolith.
