21. Tell us about your father, do you have a special memory of him?

Daddy was a good person. He had a great sense of humor. He called me Fist a Mist. We all had nick names. He used to take me fishing down to the brook to catch trout. When daddy took me with him in the car and he would let me steer. He taught me how to plant flowers and have a little garden. The only time he got upset with me is when I quit school.

22. Have you ever witnessed or experienced a fire, flood, disaster or accident? What happened, what did you do, how did you feel about it?

In 1960 when Wes was a baby I was holding him near the front door. I watched a tornado, not knowing what it was at the time. I made Heidi sit on the couch with her sneakers on because of the lightning. The wind followed the Hudson River from the mountains taking down many camps. We didn't get the full force, thank goodness.

In 1964 I witnessed the Great Ice Storm. It was in November. It rained so hard and froze everything. You could hear the branches falling all night off the trees. We lost a few trees in our yard. We had no power, so we had to go to my mother and fathers house and stay for two or three days. Heidi and Wes thought it was great. We even brought the dog Chico. She slept upstairs with us. When daddy came upstairs to check on us, Chico growled at him and wouldn't let him come near us.

Jerry had to stay home in case the power came on.

23. When you have quiet time what do you like to do?

I like pencil art coloring. I mostly do them in the summer when I can sit on the front porch. I like to do circle-a-word puzzles. It helps with depression and calms my nerves. I also watch my soap box opera, The Young and the Restless.

24. Who was the president of the United States when you were born? Who was your favorite president and why?

The president of the U.S. when I was born was Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938. He was the favorite because he got us out of the great depression. Another favorite of mine was Ronald Reagan. He came to terms with the Russians for tearing down the wall and bearing friends with the U.S.

25. Did your family have any special traditions?

The family tradition was when we use to dress up and go to mom and dads on Christmas Eve. The whole family gathered and it was fun.

26. How old were you when you learned to drive? Who taught you and what kind of car did you learn on?

My husband Jerry taught me how to drive. I was about twenty years old. I learned on our 1956 Chevrolet. It was green and white. I took my test twice. I got my license at 21 years old. On my first time out alone, Heidi (3) and Wes (infant) were with me. I went through a red light on New Pruyne Street and Broad Street in Glens Falls. I was a little shook, but did better driving after that.

27. What is your first memory of as a child?

My first memory as a child was when I was about three. Curt Harris had a camp at Harris Bay of Lake George. He invited us to go fishing. I remember going out on the dock and seeing the water and I was petrified. I wasn't going! My father picked me up and told me it was okay. He let me sit with him down in the boat.

28. What did your father and mother do for a living?

My father worked several jobs, but the last two were working for the State of New York. He did road work and plowing. The last one was driving truck for the Town of Queensbury. Also doing odd jobs and painting. My mother was a homemaker, doing washing and ironing for people while taking care of her own 7 kids. When my sister Gail was only 5 years old, Mom went to work for people doing their house keeping.

29. Have you ever seen or witnessed a miracle?

unavailable

30. What sports do you participate in or watch? Are you enthusiastic about sports or exercising?

I like to watch golf on TV. We follow golf every week. I like mens PGA. My favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson, Jerry's is Tiger Woods. Of course golf isn't good unless Tiger is playing. At one time in my life I was going to take up playing, but other things got in the way.
