The Biggest Misconceptions in
Super Smash Bros. Melee
1. You don't own at Smash. So many times in my life have I heard people say things like "I am really good at Smash" or "I am the best at Smash" or "I would own you in Smash," but most of the time those people are pretty terrible. It has happened so many times that it has now become a joke when I hear someone say it. Compared to people like AOB, I'm not very good at Smash. But I have also played many people in Smash, and the only one who beats me on a regular basis is Adam. If you haven't been a challenge to several other people (not computers) who themselves had been a challenge to several other people, you probably aren't good at Smash. If you can't beat a level 9 computer, bring your Smash to the nearest video game store that accepts pre played games and tell them they have to take it from you because you are such a disgrace to the game. If you can beat 2 level 9 computers or 3 level 9 computers on a team against you, you might be good, but it also could be completely meaningless. You have to actually play against other people, many people, and good people. If you have never played against another person in Smash, you don't own at Smash, and don't even try to tell someone that you do. If you are reading this, there's a good chance you don't own at Smash. However, if you are reading this it also means you are probably serious about playing Smash and are probably decent. If you don't know whether or not you own at Smash, go to a tournament and see how good you do. If you think you own at Smash, come see me and if I can't own you, I can probably find someone who can. The only people I know who are good at Smash are most of my friends, who you can see on the profiles page. And the only people I know who own at Smash are the ones whose web sites are under the Smash links part of my links page.

2. Shiek is not a ninja. Almost everyone who plays as Shiek, which is probably the most popular character, says they like Shiek because she is a ninja. Uh... no. Shiek is not a ninja. I don't care how Shiek walks, runs, and jumps. I don't care that Shiek throws needles. I don't care that Shiek looks like she knows martial arts. I don't care that Shiek has a mask that covers part of her face. I don't care that Shiek can break dance. Shiek is not a ninja. Shiek is Zelda dressed in different clothes, and Zelda is not a ninja. You don't play as Shiek because you think she is a ninja. You play as Shiek because she is cheap, fast, and the best character in many people's minds. If you want to call anyone a ninja, just remember which character actually wears a ninja headband (hint: it's Jigglypuff).

3. Marth is not the best character in the game. If you think Marth is the best character in the game, you are a fool. If you think no one can beat you when you play as Marth, you are a fool. If you complain about other people beating you because they are Marth, you are a fool. Marth is a very good character for experts, but he is also a very popular character for beginners. Most people like him because of his extremely good forward smash, which a beginner might think is a cheap and overpowered move. However, when playing against a good player who is fast, that forward smash becomes very slow and useless. Marth is also a very powerful aerial character, and if you don't realize that, you probably aren't good with Marth. So if you think Marth is the best character in the game, try playing as a different character and try being less of a fool.

4. Marth does not own Roy. I have also heard a bunch of times people say that Marth is way better than Roy and Roy doesn't stand a chance against Marth. Well that is completely wrong again. Marth and Roy are still very similar, so the match will more importantly come down to skill than to character. A good Roy player can completely school an overconfident Marth player (I've seen Adam do it). Even if all of Marth's attacks were stronger, Roy would still have the superior counter. Roy's counter makes Marth's counter look like a joke. Roy can actually kill people with his counter, something almost impossible for Marth to do.

5. There are almost no Smash tournaments in Connecticut or basically the New England area. No matter how much I look, I can't really find a Smash tournament in Connecticut or near it. Prove me wrong by telling me about one. E-Mail, guestbook, forum.
