Home Run Contest | Biggest Misconceptions
My Super Smash Bros Melee Home Run Contest Records/Strategies/Guides
The Basics:

If you don't know that you can catch an item in air in Smash, leave this page now.  If you're reading this, you should also know what Home Run Contest is and be somewhat familiar with it. When I say "roll," I'm talking about the avoiding move from holding the shield and pressing left or right. I think if the bat hits the ground four times, it will always disappear, if it doesn't sooner.

Dealing damage with the bat:
With most characters, maximizing the damage to the sandbag will involve extensive use of the bat. If you haven't spent much time doing Home Run Contest, you probably don't realize that the bat is your most powerful influence to causing damage. If you were only able to use the bat for the Home Run attack, the highest possible distance would be greatly less than it is. The other way to use the bat for the purpose of causing damage is to jump over the sandbag and drop the bat on top of it by pressing Z. The bat will hit the sandbag, cause damage, and knock the sandbag off the platform to a minimal distance. The idea of Home Run Contest is to cause the most damage to the sandbag without causing it to leave the platform until the time runs out. Normally you would use things like up smashes and other upward attacks that make the sandbag move vertical instead of horizontal. The other important thing to remember is that every character, except the two Links, have an aerial attack that if used against an opponent that is also in air, will send that opponent directly back to the ground and no where else. However, if you use these attacks when your opponent is on the ground, it will likely send them upward, which we don't want. Now that you know these concepts, we can factor in the bat. The problem without using the bat is that you can only do moves so quickly, which puts great limitations on the damage you can inflict. By dropping the bat on the sandbag, you are causing damage and causing the sandbag to move, while only using a very small amount of your time as opposed to other moves. Since you can drop the bat quickly, you can easily perform another move on the sandbag right after the bat hits it. If you remember, I said that every character, except the two links, have a move that will send the sandbag back to the ground if it is in air.  As soon as the bat hits the sandbag, it is in air. For most characters, the move to send the sandbag back to the ground will be an aerial down+A move. When the bat hits the sandbag, it will fly off the platform, but you can stop it with these moves that send it back to the ground. The basic idea is you stand next to the sandbag, jump, drop the bat, then do your move to halt its movement (usually aerial down+A). In a very short time you will have done two moves to the sandbag, causing significant damage, and it will still be on the platform. Repeating this process can cause massive damage that will send the sandbag distances you never though possible. Don't be fooled though, it will probably take you a little time to figure out how to do this correctly. The timing for when you drop the bat and when you execute your move will also be different with every character.  You just need patience and practice.

Swinging the bat:
Besides causing as much damage as possible to the sandbag, there are other factors in how far it will go. One is how the bat hits the sandbag. When you hit the sandbag for the final attack with the bat, you always want to use the home run power swing whatever attack (smash forward). Now we have to talk about physics. An object travels the greatest distance by being launched at a 45 degree angle. Also, momentum is equal to mass times velocity. We can't change the mass of the bat, but we can change the velocity. When you swing a bat, the top of the bat travels a greater distance in the same amount of time than the middle or lower parts of the bat. That means, it has greater velocity. That also means the sandbag will go farther if you hit it with the tip of the bat, instead of the inside.  How do you do that? If you stand right next to the sandbag and swing, you are hitting it with the inside of the bat. If you take a few steps back and swing, you are hitting it with the tip, which will send the sandbag farther. If you try to hit the sandbag when it is at 0% with the bat, with most characters it will go about 370 ft from being hit with the inside and 404 ft from being hit with the tip. That can cause a big difference for something so easy to do. The other way to send the sandbag farther is to hit it at a 45 degree angle. When you are on the ground, and the sandbag is on the ground, and you swing, it is not a 45 degree angle. Usually you won't have enough time or opportunity to do what I'm going to tell you, but it can make a significant difference in distance. The way to hit the sandbag at a 45 degree angle is to hit it while it is not on the ground, but in air. You must hit the sandbag upward and be standing in the right position to hit it where it falls. While it is falling, you start swinging the bat, and by timing it right, you can hit the sandbag before it touches the ground, sending it at a 45 degree angle. You should also hit it with the tip of the bat.  With these two things, the sandbag will go much farther.

The home run swing vs other powerful attacks:
Many characters in Smash have very powerful attacks. Based on the sandbag being at 0%, these attacks will cause more damage percentage, but the bat will send it a farther distance. However it is possible to send the sandbag farther with a powerful attack than with the bat. This is because the damage:distance ratio is not linear, it is exponential. For example, and this is just a large approximate because I didn't test it, the home run attack with the bat will send the sandbag at 100% about 1000 ft. The home run attack will also send the sandbag at 200% about 2500 ft. That means adding an extra 10% damage to the sandbag at 100% will cause less of an increase than adding an extra 10% damage to the sandbag at 200%. Knowing this, you should be able to figure out why attacks that cause more damage are sometimes better than the bat that has more momentum. If you hit the sandbag with the bat and its damage after the hit is 200%, the sandbag will go a farther distance than if you hit it with a powerful attack that leaves it with 200% damage after the hit. But, the idea is that powerful attacks do more damage than the bat. For example, Ganondorf's attack with the bat does 20% damage, and his Warlock Punch (B attack) does 30% damage. If the sandbag is at 200% damage before the hit, the attack from the bat would normally send it farther. However, the Warlock Punch will give it an extra 10% damage. Although the bat has more momentum, the Warlock Punch will send it farther at this high a percentage from this small amount of extra damage. Just remember that the more powerful attacks will not always send the sandbag farther. It will only work if the sandbag is at a relatively high percentage, so the average person will probably be using the bat in most cases. Other examples of these powerful attacks are Bowser's charged up forward smash (hold forward+A), Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch (B attack), Mr. Game and Watch's Judgement 9 attack (forward+B), Pichu's Skull Bash (hold forward+B), Jigglypuff's Rest (down+B), and Roy's Powered Up Exploding Strike (hold B).

Records:

The leet players:
If you look around on the Internet, you can find some sites with extremely sick and ridiculous records for Home Run Contest that don't even seem possible. In fact, I'll tell you about one. I found this site made by this guy who calls himself nismojoe. I think his job is to be the master of Smash. Like his entire point of living is to win Smash to the point that what he does doesn't make any sense to anyone because it's too sick. His Home Run Contest records are beyond anything an expert player could comprehend. To match his records, you have to be nothing short of pure leet. What is truly unbelievable is his Break the Targets records. In both though, it just seems like he can move faster than the game allows. Maybe he really is cheating? Anyway, he got over 2000 ft with every character, over 4000 with a few, and 11000 with Ganondorf. His site is www.nismojoe.com. Kind of makes you feel inferior huh?

The average players:
Most of us aren't leet, we are average, that's why it's called average. That means you will probably have records closer to the range of my records. I'll list my records here. Click a character for strategies on what I did, or scroll down to read them. If you have a better record with a better strategy for a character, E-Mail me or sign my guestbook explaining it, and I'll put it on my site if it works. Here are my somewhat sick records:

Dr. Mario (1703.1 ft) Falco (1503.6 ft) Pichu (1412.4 ft)
Mario (1474.4 ft) Fox (1567.3 ft) Pikachu (1464.6 ft)
Luigi (2004.0 ft) Ness (1475.4 ft) Jigglypuff (1469.2 ft)
Bowser (1823.8 ft) Ice Climbers (1441.0 ft) Mewtwo (1468.5 ft)
Peach (1429.8 ft) Kirby (1436.0 ft) Game and Watch (1405.5 ft)
Yoshi (2261.5 ft) Samus (1461.9 ft) Marth (1563.3 ft)
D.K. (2173.9 ft) Zelda (1189.3 ft) Roy (2205.7 ft)
C. Falcon (2127.0 ft) Link (1421.3 ft)
Ganondorf (3211.7 ft) Young Link (1450.5 ft)

Total: 41069.5 ft

Strategies:

Slacker Method = No bat drops or L-cancelling
Better Method = Bat drops, but no L-cancelling
Leet Method = All the bat drops and L-cancelling you can handle

Dr. Mario:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat, roll so your back is touching the left side of the sandbag. Do two up smashes and roll to the left so you are on the left side of the sandbag again. Hit the sandbag with the cape 8 times, then hit it with the bat. It should be at 123% and go about 1367.5 ft.
The Better Method - With Dr. Mario I turned around and grabbed the bat. Then I rolled backwards so I'm next to the sandbag. Then use the up smash twice without holding it, just doing it as fast as possible. After the second up smash, do the bat combo by jumping over the sandbag, dropping the bat, and using the corkscrew (aerial down+A). Do that three times. Then throw a pill (B attack) at the sandbag, and bash it with the bat. Just remember that depending on how you use the corkscrew, it can do varying damage. From doing this I got the sandbag to 146%, and it went 1621.7 ft.

Mario:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat, roll so you are on the right side of the sandbag. Up smash, take a step forward, up smash again. Roll to the left side of the sandbag and use the cape 8 times. Hit it with the bat. It should be at 109% and go about 1189.6 ft.
The Better Method - With Mario, turn around and grab the bat, then walk or run over to the sandbag. Then use the bat combo by jumping, dropping the bat, and using the clobber (aerial forward+A). Jump up again and grab the bat in air by pressing Z, and immediately drop the bat again and clobber the sandbag again. It will probably have moved too far over to repeat this again, so walk over a step and use this combo two more times. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 137% for me. If it is too hard for you to catch the bat in air, drop it, and clobber, you can either keep practicing or leave that part out. If you leave it out, do the bat+clobber combo three times, then shoot a fireball at the sandbag and smash it with the bat. An important thing to remember while doing this is that the longer you wait before you use the clobber, the less distance forward the sandbag will be pushed. You should wait as long as possible before using the clobber so that the sandbag won't move much at all.

Luigi:
The Slacker Method - Turn around and grab the bat. Roll backwards so you are on the right side of the sandbag, then up smash. Jump backwards so you are over where the sandbag lands, use the aerial neutral+A while falling on the sandbag. Land, jump again, aerial neutral+A twice in a row. Land, jump once, aerial neutral+A, jump again, aerial neutral+A. At this point the sandbag will either be at 75% or 80% damage. If it is at 75%, shoot a fireball, then hit it with the bat. If it is at 80%, just hit it with the bat. The sandbag will either be at 101% or 100% and go about 1050 ft.
Another Method is hold diagnal forward+down and repeatedly press A. Do that about 3 times forward, then roll to the right side of the sandbag and keep doing it towards the bat. When the time is low roll to the left side of the sandbag, grab the bat, and smash it. It will go about the same distance as the other method.
The Better Method - With Luigi, turn around and grab the bat, then roll backwards so you are on the right side of the sandbag. Quickly up smash the sandbag once. Then jump above the sandbag and drop the bat. Use his aerial A attack after the bat hits the sandbag. Jump up again and grab the bat by pressing Z, immediately drop the bat again, then use his aerial A attack again after the bat hits. Land, pick the bat up from the ground, jump up again, drop the bat on the sandbag, and use his aerial A attack. Land, grab the bat, and smash the sandbag when it comes down. The sandbag was at 132% and went 1440.3 ft for me. If this is too confusing, just keep doing stuff and things will happen.
The Leet Method (Watch Video)- Grab the bat, walk over to the sandbag, turn around, and take a step away from the sandbag. Bat drop, aerial down+A, and L-cancel 5 times. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 173% for me. Other people can get an extra bat drop aerial neutral+A in the beginning and a weak forward+A at the end, but this was the best I can do.

Bowser:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat, run over to the sandbag, use the up smash. Then either use a single jump and the up+B 3 times, or another up smash and a single jump and up+B 2 times. You should be able to get over 1200 ft with this.
The Better Method - With Bowser, turn around and grab the bat. Then from that position, jump above the sandbag and drop the bat. When it hits, use the spinning attack (up+B). Pick up the bat and do this combo two more times. After three times, charge up his forward smash (hold forward+A). When you do this, make sure that the smash gets charged all the way. Also make sure you are standing right next to the sandbag when you use it, the farther away you are, the less distance the sandbag will go. When you use the up+B attack, it can cause varying amounts of damage based on where you are when you use it. So keep trying until you get the best damage on it. The sandbag was at 162% for me.
The Leet Method - I can't do the leet method, but what people do is exactly the same as my better method, except in the beginning they grab the bat, double jump over the sandbag, drop the bat, and use the aerial up+A. Then they use the bat drop and up+B combo 3 times like in my better method. When I try this I can only get the bat drop and up+B combo twice. Apparently you have to fast fall and L-cancel like the beast Bowser is.

Peach:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat and run to the sandbag. Up smash the sandbag 3 times. After the 3rd up smash, on its way down, jump and aerial down+A the sandbag. Land, short hop and aerial down+A the sandbag 4 times. Then smash it with the bat. The sandbag was at 108% and went 1146.6 ft for me.
The Better Method - With Peach, turn around and grab the bat, then run next to the sandbag. Up smash the sandbag as soon as you can. Then take a step or two forward so you are as close as possible to the sandbag when it hits the ground. When it lands, throw the bat upwards by pressing up+Z, and as fast as you can, hit A repeatedly to stop the sandbag and pick up the bat again. If this doesn't work, you either aren't hitting A fast enough, or aren't close enough to the sandbag for it to work. Go to where the sandbag lands, jump, drop the bat, and when the bat hits, use the aerial down+A to keep it in place. Jump again, catch the bat in air, drop it, and use the aerial down+A again. Repeat this two more times, then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 132% for me.

Yoshi:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat and walk over to the sandbag. Then just short hop and use the aerial down+A as many times as you can. Then smash it with the bat. I got the sandbag to around 170% doing this.
The Better Method (Watch Video)- With Yoshi, turn around and grab the bat, then walk over to the sandbag. Press and hold up to jump, then throw the bat upward. Still holding up, press A to attack the sandbag with the aerial up+A move. As soon as you land, jump again and use the aerial down+A. The bat will hit it during this move, so it will stand still. Make sure when you do this that you short hop with the aerial down+A, the sandbag should be at about 70% after you do this. Then grab the bat, jump, drop the bat, and use the aerial forward+A move. Jump again, grab the bat in air, drop the bat, and use the aerial forward+A again. Do this one more time, then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 187% for me.

D.K.:
The Slacker Method - Grab the bat, turn around, and hit the sandbag with the neutral+A for 7% damage. Then run at the sandbag and up smash it 3 times, without holding the smash. After the 3rd up smash, jump twice and stomp it down with the aerial down+A. Short hop and stomp it again. Then jump and stomp it again. Take a step back and smash it with the tip of the bat. The sandbag was at 117% and went 1215.5 ft for me.
The Better Method - With D.K., press A twice to do a 2-hit combo that will do 10% damage. Then turn around and grab the bat. Then from the position you are in, jump twice and drop the bat above the sandbag. Use the stomp (aerial down+A) after the bat hits. Grab the bat from the ground, jump, drop the bat, and use the stomp again. Repeat this process two more times. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 154% and went 1742.5 ft for me.
Another method that is almost as good is to turn around and grab the bat. Then from that position, jump twice and drop the bat over the sandbag. When it hits, use the stomp (aerial down+A). Pick up the bat, jump, drop the bat, use the stomp again. Then use the forward+B move to slam the sandbag into the ground. Pick up the bat, use the A attack once, then use the up+B attack. The sandbag will then be released and fly into the air. Jump up twice and stomp it back down. Then smash it with the bat.
The Leet Method (Watch Video)- Turn around, take a step forward, grab the bat, and roll so your back is to the left side of the sandbag. Do 5 bat drop and aerial down+A combos while L-cancelling each time. The sandbag was at 179% for me. The real leet players do this completely different, but I couldn't do what they do because it doesn't make sense and doesn't work like they do it.

Captain Falcon:
The Slacker Method (Watch Video)- Walk to the sandbag and up smash it. Up smash it again on its way down. Then hold the up smash again, and use it again when the sandbag is in range. Jump twice and stomp (aerial down+A) the sandbag down. Up smash it again. Jump twice and stomp the sandbag down again. Then Falcon Punch it standing right next to the sandbag. It was at 133% and went 838.2 ft for me.
The Better Method - Turn around and grab the bat, then walk over to the sandbag. Up smash it as quickly as possible. When the sandbag gets low enough, before it hits the ground, jump, drop the bat, stomp. Then jump, catch the bat in air, drop the bat, and stomp. Repeat that process three more times. Then Falcon Punch (B attack) the sandbag like a beast. The sandbag was at 199% for me.

Ganondorf:
Ganondorf is by far the easiest character for Home Run Contest and can get a much much higher distance than any other character. There are a few reasons for this. His up smash does massive damage, his stomp (aerial down+A) does insane damage, and his Warlock Punch (B attack) is savage. With Ganondorf, turn around and grab the bat. Then turn around and use the A attack to hit the sandbag for 7% damage. Then run to the sandbag and use his up smash as quickly as possible. When the sandbag gets low enough, before it hits the ground, jump, drop the bat, and stomp (aerial down+A) it. Pick up the bat, jump, drop the bat, and stomp the sandbag again. Repeat this combo two more times. Then Warlock Punch (B attack) that sandbag with everything you got. The sandbag was at 218% for me. You have to be very fast in order to do this, so if you can't, you can leave out the first hit causing the 7% damage.

Falco:
The Better Method - Grab the bat and walk into the sandbag so your body is overlapping with it. Jump, drop the bat, and stomp (aerial down+A) the sandbag. Do 4 more aerial down+A bat drops, catching and dropping the bat in air each time. Then pick up the bat, short hop and shoot a laser, then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 161% for me.

Fox:
The Slacker Method - Pick up the bat and walk into smashing range of the sandbag. Fire the laser rapidly at the sandbag until the last second, then smash it with the bat. I got the sandbag to 104% doing this, which sent it 1068.6 ft.
The Better Method - Grab the bat and walk into the sandbag. Double jump, drop the bat, and use the aerial up+A. Jump, catch the bat, jump again, drop the bat over the sandbag, and use the corkscrew (aerial down+A). Repeat the corkscrew bat drop combo 3 more times. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. It was at 151% for me.

Ness:
With Ness, turn around and grab the bat. From that position, jump twice, drop the bat over the sandbag, then stomp (aerial down+A) it. I landed on the right side when I did it. Jump, catch the bat in air, drop the bat, and stomp the sandbag again. Jump, catch the bat in air, jump again, drop the bat in air. stomp the sandbag. Jump, catch the bat in air, drop the bat, and stomp the sandbag again. Pick up the bat. You should be on the right side, so roll to the left side and smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 135% for me.

Ice Climbers:
With the Ice Climbers, hold down+B during the countdown to start. Your partner will use the Arctic Blast attack, but you will be free to move. Quickly grab the bat and throw it at the sandbag using forward+Z. If you are fast enough, the sandbag won't move. You have to be very fast though, the sandbag needs to still be caught in the Arctic Blast when the bat hits it. Then pick up the bat and walk over to the sandbag. Jump and bash the sandbag with both hammers using the aerial forward+A. Do this three more times. You have to time it just right so the sandbag doesn't move, otherwise it will fly off the platform. Then smash the sandbag with the bat, but make sure when you do this that you only push forward+A and not hold it. If you do that, your partner will use the forward smash a split second before you hit it with the bat. The sandbag was at 130% for me.

Kirby:
With Kirby, turn around and grab the bat. Then jump twice and drop the bat over the sandbag, then use the corkscrew (aerial down+A). Pick the bat up and repeat this combo three more times. Be careful though because the last hit of the corkscrew will send the sandbag flying, so while you are doing the corkscrew you need to be moving away so that the last hit misses the sandbag. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 135% for me.
If you want an easier method that is almost as effective, then you can try this. Turn around and grab the bat. Jump over the sandbag, fall very close to the sandbag, drop the bat, then quickly use the spinning hammer (aerial forward+B). Pick up the bat and repeat this combo two times. Then use the spinning hammers again or the up+B attack. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag should be in about the 120%s.

Samus:
With Samus, turn around and grab the bat. From that position, jump over the sandbag, drop the bat, and use the aerial down+A move. Pick up the bat, jump, drop the bat on the sandbag, and use the aerial down+A move. Repeat this combo two more times. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 138% for me.

Zelda:
With Zelda... I really need help! No matter what combination of moves I do, the sandbag always ends with only about 100% damage. Send me some better strategies if you know any.

Link:
With Link, turn around and grab the bat. Then throw the boomerang at the sandbag and run close to the sandbag. Roll to the right side of the sandbag. Jump twice, drop the bat, and use the aerial up+A attack. Pick up the bat, walk to the right side of the sandbag, jump twice, drop the bat, and use the aerial up+A attack. Pick up the bat, throw the bat at the sandbag with forward+Z, then pick up the bat again. Wait for the sandbag to come back to the platform and smash it with the bat at a 45 degree angle. The sandbag was at 100% for me. It went so far at a low percent because of the angle I hit it at.

Young Link:
With Young Link, immediately throw the boomerang at the sandbag. Then turn around and grab the bat and run close to the sandbag. The sandbag was at 105% for me. It went so far at a low percent because of the angle I hit it at.

Pichu:
With Pichu, turn around and grab the bat, then roll next to the sandbag. Jump and throw the bat up in the air with up+Z. As soon as you can, use the Thunder attack (down+B). You must be right next to the sandbag when the Thunder hits so it doesn't fly off the platform. Then jump, catch the bat in air, throw the bat upward again, and use Thunder again. Grab the bat, jump over the sandbag, and use the aerial forward+A attack. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 130% for me.
If you want to try being ultra sick, you can use a different method. You can try using this other combo where you jump twice, drop the bat next to the sandbag, then use the aerial down+A attack on the other side of the sandbag. You will hit it into the bat, which will hit it back into you. It's really sick and really hard. If you can do it a few times, try using the Skull Bash (hold forward+B) instead of the bat.

Pikachu:
With Pikachu, turn around and grab the bat. Jump twice, drop that bat so it will land to the left of the sandbag but still hit it, then use the aerial down+A attack on the right side. This should do about 33-34% damage. Grab the bat, jump twice, drop the bat so it will land to the right of the sandbag but still hit it, then use the aerial down+A on the left side. The sandbag should be at about 66%. Pick up the bat, jump, drop the bat over the sandbag, and use the aerial forward+A attack. Repeat this combo once more. Then smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 134% for me.

Jigglypuff:
The Slacker Method - Run over to the sandbag and up smash it 5 times as quickly as possible. When it lands, jump and use the aerial down+A corkscrew. Jump and use the corkscrew again, then use Rest (down+B) on the left side.of the sandbag. You can use the Rest after the corkscrew, before you land again. The sandbag was at 119% for me and went 1469.2 ft.
The Better Method - Grab the bat. From that position, jump once, drop the bat on the right side of the sandbag, and use the aerial neutral+A attack. Jump once, grab the bat in air, drop the bat on the left side of the sandbag, and use the aerial neutral+A attack. Jump once, grab the bat in air, jump again, drop the bat on the right side of the sandbag, and use the corkscrew (aerial down+A). Do this once more, dropping the bat on the left side of the sandbag. Then use rest (down+B) on the sandbag. It was at 124% for me.

Mewtwo:
With Mewtwo, turn around and grab the bat. From that position, jump twice, drop the bat over the sandbag, and use the aerial down+A attack. Make sure when doing this that your back is to the sandbag. Then jump, catch the bat in air, jump again, drop the bat, and use the aerial down+A attack. Repeat this combo one more time. Then Flip (forward+B) the sandbag twice, pick up the bat, and smash the sandbag with the bat. The sandbag was at 137% for me.

Mr. Game and Watch:
With Mr. Game and Watch, turn around and grab the bat. Jump twice, drop the bat over the sandbag, use the Key (aerial down+A), and make sure the sandbag goes to the left. Use the Key early enough so that it only hits once and the sandbag doesn't go off the patform, it should be at about 29-30% damage. Then jump, catch the bat in air, jump again, drop the bat over the sandbag, and use the aerial backward+A move on the left side of the sandbag. It will fly over to the right. Pick up the bat, jump twice, drop the bat over the sandbag, use the aerial forward+A attack on the right side of the sandbag (facing left), and make sure you are high enough when you do it so that the sandbag doesn't fly off the platform. Pick up the bat and throw the bat at the sandbag with forward+Z. Roll to the right edge of the platform, then when the sandbag bounces back, own it with some Judgement 9 (forward+B). The sandbag was at 143% for me.

Marth:
The Better Method - With Marth, turn around and grab the bat. Then just keep jumping around, dropping the bat on the sandbag, and using the aerial down+A slash. It will all work out. I did 5 bat drop combos with the aerial down+A slash. The sandbag was at 156% for me.

Roy:
The Slacker Method - Walk over to the sandbag and use the up smash 3 times. Then hit the sandbag with a fully charged B attack. You will know if it is fully charged because you will take 10% damage. The sandbag should go at least 1400 ft.
The Better Method - Grab the bat, then walk over to the sandbag. Jump, drop the bat, and use the aerial down+A slash. Then jump, catch the bat in air, drop the bat, and use the aerial down+A slash. Repeat this combo two more times. Then charge up the Exploding Slash (hold B) and own the sandbag. The attack must be fully charged, it will do 10% damage to yourself if it is. You have to be quick to get it fully charged, but it makes all the difference. The sandbag was at 133% for me.
The Leet Method - By L-cancelling each time, I was able to do the same thing as my better method, but add a forward+B slash in the beginning. So, when you start, use a forward+B slash.  Then grab the bat and walk over to the sandbag. Jump, drop the bat, and use an aerial down+A slash. Jump, catch the bat, drop the bat, and use an aerial down+A slash. Repeat the aerial down+A bat drop combo 2 more times. Then hit the sandbag with a fully charged B attack. It was at 138% for me.

Now I should thank Adam for letting me borrow his Gamecube so I could get all these records, which he will never beat.

Remember, if you have better strategies, or problems understanding these strategies, complain about it in an E-Mail ([email protected]) to me or in my guestbook.

On to Break the Targets maybe...?
