RV  SINGLES   Blog  Comments   Page

  Loadin' Up
I started a group in March, 2007, on  EONS.com  named RV SINGLES, dedicated to people who travel alone (or with pets) with their tents, campers/travel trailers, fifth-wheels and RV's.  We are living our desire to see the great things this country has to offer, OFF the 'beaten-traveled' paths.  This group, in its growth, indicates that we single RVers will increase in numbers, to become a noticeable percentage of this nation's expanding ranks of RVers!

Do you have a comment and rating, regarding places to stay and places to visit, while on the RV adventure.  Join me as I build on this idea of "rating" those places who wish for our business and offer their services to us [described in real-life terms].  Some sites are great, but some need a lot of help!

Email to  RVSINGLES  with your rating (1, 2, or 3   --->  3 being highest rating)

Include the following details in your email:
  *  your member ID name on EONS (and EONS group RV SINGLES)
  *  a short paragraph about the RV Park or site
  *  the park's name, address, and phone [or URL weblink]
  *  the reason you chose your rating number

Then, watch for  posting of your submission on the "ratings" page, at the link below.

In the short time since I began my travels in 2006, I have seen a need for a one-spot ratings page for public RV Parks and other overnight use sites, which exist to attract and provide services to on-road RV travelers.  Perhaps by creating this ratings page, similar to the "star" system in place for rating hotels/motels for the traveler, we RVers can recommend the best sites to stay, and avoid those sites which possibly do not 'live up to expectations'.  Let's keep the growing number of RV park-sites honest, encouraging them to offer truly enjoyable and fairly-priced stays for us all.

I could not have said it better than this article below!

RV Travel: RV park's high rates send editor scrambling for freebie
Weekend of Feb. 10-11, 2007

Here's why the RV park industry has to get its act together. It was Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and I had just entered Bishop, California, a quiet community on the east slope of the Sierra mountains along U.S. 395 near the popular Mammoth Mountain ski area.

It was dark when I pulled into what appeared to be the only RV park open this time of year. I had stayed before a few years ago. The office was closed. A sign told me the rate was $35 a night, which was for full hookups. No Good Sam or other discount was offered. The temperature was supposed to dip to about 20, so I was interested only in electricity to run a heater, but not hooking up to water and ending up with a frozen hose.

The instructions were to leave my money at a kiosk of some sort, which was located, the sign noted, under a blue street light in the park. I looked around, but did not see such a light. All the while, I was stewing over having to pay $35 to sleep for a few hours. Finally, I said the heck with it. I got back in the RV and backtracked north less than a mile to a casino. I figured it might allow overnight
parking.

Stay free here or $35 up the road.

Not only did it permit it, but offered a quiet fenced off area exclusively for RVers. And so I spent the night at the Paiute Palace Casino. Of course, I walked to the casino to check it out and invested two dollars in slot machines, so that was the net cost for my stay. Several other RVers joined me that night, all of us awakening the next morning to a beautiful dusting of snow.

The RV park where I intended to stay got nothing. With its stiff rates and nobody to serve me, and its confusing instructions about where to pay, it did not deserve my money.

If you pass through Bishop and simply need a place to rest for 12 hours, consider staying at the casino, where the gas station also offers the cheapest fuel in town.

And. . . if you depart Bishop heading south, be sure to stop at Schat's Dutch Bakery, where you will find one of the world's largest selections of breads of every kind. If you have kids along, donate a few slices to the friendly ducks across the street in the city park.
