October on Fire Island
page 2
| This boardwalk is a mile trail through
some of the foliage that grows on the island. The trees will grow
only to the height of the dunes. The dunes protect them from the
salt water. The island is all sand, so the plants growing here like
sandy soil. |

This tree was right along the
boardwalk. All the pine cones are still on the tree, but there are
no needles. Several people said it almost looks like they were glued
for some artist effect.
The island is home to many deer and you can see
where the deer have feasted on the plants and trees. |
| There is a lot of growth along side
the boardwalk. The bay berries were gone. I saw a lot of red
berries, cat tails and plumes. Poison Ivy likes sandy soil.
You can see it growing off the trail.

I could not figure out what type of
plant this was. It was just too interesting not to snap a picture. |
