Again some foliage grown on the bay
side. It is well protected by the dunes so the plants grow
taller. I thought it made a nice fall picture. The rushes were all
big plumes.
This is taken looking over the bay.
The bay is Great South Bay. The land on the far side is Long
Island. The ground is very marshy along the bay side.
This looks like a big tree, however it
is really no more than six feet tall. This area is called a sunken
forest. The land is low enough that trees and shrubs will
grow. The heights of everything is the same height as the dunes.
This is the boardwalk going up to the
highest point. There are stairs to the left that take you down to
the beach. Erosion has worn so much of the beach away it is a high
cliff right now. Notice no trees. Salt water from the
ocean would reach them here.
