of twilight
As directed by Count Dracula, stayed
in Golden Krone Hotel
Received a letter from Dracula
4th
May Before he left for Borgo
Pass the next day
-
An old lady begged him not to go as it was the eve of St.
George’s Day
It
is an old belief that when the clock strikes midnight on the eve of St.George’s
Day, all evil things will have full sway. The
lady did not want Jonathan Harker to go to Castle Dracula, for danger in
the, form of Dracula, will be at its strongest.
-
The lady, unable to stop Jonathan from going, gave him a
crucifix for protection purposes.
The crucifix was given to Jonathan so that Dracula will not be
able to harm him.
5th May Before the coach started, the huge
crowds round the inn door all made the sign of the cross and pointed two fingers
towards him.
It was a charm or guard against the evil eye.
The
driver of the carriage was Count Dracula himself.
-
He
did not wish for Jonathan to get off the carriage to and walk quickly when
the horses slow down going up the hill -
He
tried to hide his identity as the Count himself from Jonathan -
He had a hard
looking mouth, with deep red lips and sharp looking teeth, as white as
ivory -
He
had a grip of steel and his strength must have been prodigious
Dracula
is not human but a evil creature. So the effect of eve of St.George’s falls
on him too. He will be stronger and naturally he is already strong. So he
will be unstoppable.
5th
May Dracula did not wish for Jonathan
to arrive until midnight for that was when he will gain full sway as according
to the belief of the old lady.
Met
Count Dracula who invited him to eat and rest.
-
Dracula did not join Jonathan for
supper
7th May Had a cold breakfast with hot coffee.
Went
through the documents with the Count.
Dracula wished to go to London.
8th May Jonathan realized that Dracula cast
no reflection in the mirror.
Jonathan realized that he was trapped in
the castle and could not escape.
Had
a long talk with the Count at midnight about the Transylvanian history
12th May Dracula told Jonathan to write three
letters to Mr. Hawkins and anyone he pleased. He was told to write that he
would be staying for a month.
Dracula
warned Jonathan not to sleep in any other part of the castle.
Jonathan saw a most awkward thing. He saw the Count crawling down the castle wall into the abyss face down.
16th May Jonathan saw the Count’s brides who
tried to taste his blood.
-
There
were three brides -
They had
brilliant white teeth that shone like pearls against the ruby of their
voluptuous lips -
The
Brides had a silvery musical laugh
The Count was
furious when he saw them acting like that. He grasped the slender neck of the
fair woman and drew it back. He then hurled the woman from him. He yelled at
them not to touch Jonathan until he had finished with him.

The women seemed to fade into the moonlight.
18th May Jonathan was told to write three
letters dated on June 12, June 19 and June 29.
28th May Jonathan tried to send out two letters
by the Szgany. However the Count got the letters and burned one.
31st May Jonathan found every single one of his
papers were gone.
24th June Jonathan realized the Count was
impersonating him by wearing his clothes so that he could be seen in the
villages.
25th June Jonathan went into the Count’s room
through the window. He explored the room until he found the count sleeping in a
coffin in the room.
29th June Jonathan wanted to leave the castle and
the Count allowed it as he said he did not wish for Jonathan to be kept against
his will. However, at the door, he was met by the howling of wolves, thus he
was unable to continue.
30th June
Jonathan wanted to obtain the key to the door
at any risk in order to escape.
He
again went into the Count’s room and look for the coffin. The Count looked like
his youth had been half renewed. The sight filled Jonathan’s soul with horror.
When
he heard the Szgany and the Slovaks coming in to get the coffin. He was
desperate to run out as soon as the door was opened. However, a violent puff of
wind blew the door in front of him shut and would not open.
The
Szgany and Slovaks carried the Count’s coffin away.
Dracula
has left the Castle.
Jonathan was then trapped in the castle with the three
vampires. In attempt to find a way to escape, he planned to scale the wall of
the castle higher.
