Our Symbol

What It Means
This design was created as a symbol of the unity within diversity represented within our dojo and reflective of a fundamental philosophy that ALL are welcomed to study with us. We pride ourselves in the wide assortment of people within our dojo. And, despite all the outward differences among the members, we manage to blend together into a unified whole as a new entity -- the Community of Rutgers Kodenkan dojo.

The circle also refers to the path one takes in the study of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu; beginning with learning the fundamental movements and principles of the techniques, and then discovering how each progressive list brings one to a new understanding of what has previously been learned. With each successive cycle, the learner moves closer to the center, which is the ideal of perfection of character mentioned in our Esoteric Principles.
