Introduction/Beginner Class

Tuesdays
Class meets from 9:00pm - 10:30pm in the Wrestling Room of the
College Avenue Gymnasium during the Fall and Spring semesters. Make sure you stay after class to socialize with the club!

This class is designed to teach the fundamentals of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. Students will learn all the techniques required for the rank of Rokyu, the first colored belt. This will include basic rolls and falls, throws, holds, and self-defense escapes with an emphasis on performing all skills with utmost control and proficiency. While practicing these skills, students are also learning principles of balance, leverage, and momentum. As students become ready to test for their Blue Belt, they are invited to come to Thursdays Intermediate class.

The recreational Jujitsu classes are part of the Instructional Program of Rutgers College Recreational Services. They are open to students, faculty, staff, and recreational services members. Registration for these classes is held the second week of each semester. The instructor for the Jujitsu Classes is Barbara Gessner, 5th Degree Black Belt in both Jujitsu and Judo. Assistant Instructors include the Black Belt and upper-ranking Brown Belt students from the Jujitsu Club.

Intermediate Class

Rutgers students, faculty, staff, and recreational services members only (Rokyu and above)

Thursdays
Class meets from 8:00pm - 10:00pm in the wrestling room of the
College Avenue Gymnasium during the Fall and Spring semesters. Make sure you stay after class to socialize with the club!

Students must already hold a rank in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu in order to register for this class. The course allows for an in-depth study of Jujitsu beyond the basic fundamentals taught in the Beginner class. This includes the application of the formal techniques in freestyle or self-defense situations. Promotional exams are offered within this class as students acquire the necessary level of proficiency in the performance of the required techniques in addition to completing a notebook with written descriptions for all of the techniques they have learned.
