Background

My interest in all-things trains was further ignited on a recent trip to Perth in Western Australia where I am from. My family went on a day trip to Castledare Miniature Railway in Wilson and rode on a few of the 1/8 scale loco's. Now this is a hobby! Well upon my return to Indonesia I commenced doing some research on this hobby. I contacted a number of organisations in Australia, the UK and the US to find out about what is on offer regarding kits in the rideable live steam hobby.

In the end I have now ordered a 1/8 scale 7 1/4" Gauge model of the A3 Flying Scotsman from Model Works International (www.modelworks-int.com). It is going to cost a fortune but I am sure will be well worth it. The only problem is there will be no where to run it in Indonesia!

As I get each kit I will try and update my efforts here from the viewpoint of someone who is completely inexperienced in the live steam hobby.
