| Close behind Runs Like Wind on this day was a one year old colt, running at about the same speed. It raced past the boy; only to have the boy catch up and pass it again. It was as if they were playing a game of tag. The boy would suddenly stop and stand dead still, trying to confuse the colt. But as soon as the boy made a move, no matter in which direction, the colt would race after him as quickly as a bolt of lightning. 5 |

| The colt, who he had named Lightning for just that reason, was a gift to him from his father when it was born. Horses were scarce among his people and to own one was a great honor. Runs Like Wind was very proud for such an honor. There was a great bond between the boy and his colt as they grew up together. Each morning, even before the sun would rise and light the sky, they would run across the plains. As the young horse grew and ran faster and faster, so too, did the boy. And with each passing day, their love for one another grew greater and greater. 6 |
