The Alex Skolnick Trio!
As most regular visitors of this site have probably come to realize, Jill and I have no lives.
So when that rare occassion comes along that we both manage to get out of the office at the same
time, it's reason to celebrate! And what better way to celebrate than to go see a killer band?
The Alex Skolnick trio IS that band!

We were fortunate enough to catch the Trio
in Cincinnati, OH on May 28th, 2003 (the first
stop on their National Tour!) and we thought
we would share a bit of the experience with
you. These are just a few of the pictures we
took of the performance and the mingling
afterwards.

  The band played at the
Barrelhouse Brewery,
which is a nice, cozy little hole-in-the-wall type
of place. With the dim lighting and the smoky
air, it provided an intimate atmosphere, perfect
for a jazz band. And, there wasn't a bad seat in
the house because most of the tables were set
up within a few feet of the stage. If you didn't
look behind you, you would never have guessed
there were another fifty acres of bar with pool
tables back there. Ah... plenty of room to
spread out! All in all, it was the perfect setting
and I really have to commend whoever it was
that picked this particular place.

Matt Zebroski: Drums

The show itself was excellent! From the
minute the band started playing, you could
tell that the people watching were mes-
merized by the music. It was almost
surprizing, considering they were playing
jazz, and most of the people there were -
judging by the T-shirts- Testament fans. Of
course, I wasn't sure of what to expect,
myself. I had only seen Alex perform with
the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and I hadn't
listened to the AST CD yet, so I was tickled
to death when they started playing one of
my favorite types of music! And, most of
the songs they did were remakes of old
favorite rock songs like Pinball Wizard, No
One Like You and Detroit Rock City, so it
was easy to keep up with what they were
playing.

Now, I could try to go into Alex's "style" of
playing at this point, maybe try to explain
the riffs and chords and stuff, but to be
honest, I never really understood what all of
that meant and I would probably sound
really stupid if I tried to explain. Just suffice
it to say that I was totally enthralled by his
playing, watching as well as listening!

For the show, the Trio did music from their CD, Goodbye to Romance

Other than being such talented musicians,
these guys were amazing nice, as well! After
they finished playing, they mingled around
the crowd, talking with fans, signing
autographs and taking pictures... Matt even
sopped up a drink I spilled on him without
smacking me! I especial found it cool -if not
a little scary... Oh goodness! What did I
do??? I Knew I shouldn't have had that last
drink!- that Alex remembered me months
later when I saw him at the
Cutting Room
Show
. They are definitely a great group of
guys that are well deserving of their fans!

Thank You For The Unforgettable Night!
