My Goodness...
I'm getting seriously tired of hearing that term... "politically correct". What is that suppose to mean, anyway? Should we take it as a reference to politics or politeness? Either way, why not just Say that? Are they trying to disguise the word so that everyone will want to rush out and be that? "Correct".
I read a article recently about how the government is going to, once again, update the history books used by schools. The "update" will be a politically correct version of our history in America, with emphases on the area of our involvement with slavery (meaning that, they intend to cut certain elements out).
Whether this is true or not, I have not been able to confirm. But if it is, and if it is the intention of our government is to be "polite" about our history, I think they're making a grave mistake. Cause by gosh, our history is Anything but polite, (as history rarely is). We're human, we screw up. We can either try to learn from those mistakes, or we can try to deny them and continue making the same mistake over and over again. I'll be the first to admit that our country has made some drastic mistakes along the way, but trying to cover them up by not teaching them to our children is not the solution.
If it's a matter of "politics" and they are trying to change history, doesn't that sort of make you wonder what it is that they have up their sleeves? (Of course, being the paranoid conspiracy theorist that I am, I believe it's a way our governments way of keeping us stupid, because everybody knows it's easier to lead a stupid person than an informed one. But, that's neither here nor there.) Thing is, how do you just wipe out an entire era because it doesn't "sound nice". That, in my humble opinion, is totally ridiculous! Consider the repercussions of this... All the great stuff this nation has accomplished is going to sound pretty lame if we don't explain what it is we went though to get there. We abolished slavery in this country... Slavery? What's that? .... Oh yeah, we didn't teach you That because it wasn't right. Huh? And... We gave women equal rights in this country... Women? What are those? .... Oh yeah! That's the feminahomosapiens...
