The Gre Vocabularly prerequisites
To start off with GRE(vocabulary) you need to have few tools before hand. Even if you don't have them right now you can go through this site and get them later. The tools needed are listed below

2. A voice recording device such as walkman or any other voice recording device.

Starting off with Word Power
No football player starts playing football without carrying out warmup excercises prior to the game.Else he will endup having cramp or injury. Same is the case of vocabulary, if you start directly mugging up words you will end up having no words left in your brains at the time of your exams. How? Well GRE consists of nearly about 4000 words and 90% of them are not used in daily communication to remember them is no fools game. As you go ahead previously done words are washed out.
There is a solution to this problem and this solution is provided by a book called word power made easy by Norman Lewis. This book uses a technique called etymology.
Etymology means breaking a complex word into mainy small simple words and deriving its meaning from them. This helps remembering those complex words easily.This book also focuses on the origin of different complicated words and helps in remebering them by discussing various issues related to them. It also discusses many similar sounding words, many similar words for a single word and much more. And above all this book covers your 3/4 th of GRE high frequency Wordlist.
How to get and use this book?
Most of the students who have given GRE or SAT have got this book with them. So getting this book shouldn't be a big issue for you. My sincere request to you is try getting this book from any of your cousin, friend, brother or any relative who has previously given GRE or SAT. If then too you are not getting the book you can buy it. But try finding it somewhere with some of your friend cause this will save you considerable amount of bucks.
Once you get this book donot get worried by its size. You don't have to cover whole of this book only alternate chapters. Chapters which cover vocabulary. Between two chapters there is a discussion on usage of english language and grammar which can be neglected as this is not needed at GRE. Also try solving the excercises given at the end of each chapter this will help you in remembering these words
How to remember it for long?
Most of the students read this book and don't return back to it. Thus ending up with no words left with them. But they too cannot be blamed. Because there are much more things to be completed other than reading word power to get good score at GRE.
