WALKS WITH DEER
Walks With Deer is my Native American name. My ancestors came from the town of Batoche in the providence of Sask. I am of the tribe of the Pembina Indians. Whose Tribal Chiefs were Little Shell and Red Bear. I am also of what people would call a mixed blood (metis).

My Great-Great Uncle started the town of Batoche. Batoche is a nickname, and in Chipppewa it means stuck. Batoche is my maiden name. My Great-Great Grandfather carried the Batoche name as they traveled the Red River during the Fur Trade Era. Letendre was my real name before Batoche. In history books it is referred to as Batoche dit Letendre.

I grew up in Greenbush, Minnesota and Minneapolis. I was taught much of the old ways of my ancestors and my family. We didn't have alot but my childhood was good because I had two parents who were family oriented. They instilled traditional values in us kids and taught us how to survive, with all that the great mother earth had provided for us.

I have experienced many troubles in my life time, and I have walked the red road wih honor an integrity. I have tried to treach my children much the same values, so that they too can be proud as they begin their circle of life.

To my children I give them the  wisdom of my years. so that they can learn and have balance in their life so that they too can pass down tradition to their future generations.
