The School

RSK Higher Secondary School, is located at idyllic locations amidst sylvan surroundings of the BHEL Kailasapuram Township, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Every RSK student, ideally starts his/her life at RSK at one of the two Primary Schools - A Sector (housing classes KG I, KG II, and I, sections A,B and C) & E Sector (housing classes II, III, IV and V, sections A, B and C) or B Sector (housing classes KG I, KG II, I, II, III, IV, and V, sections D, E and F). This would be the most important part in an RSKite's life, because the care that one receives at these divisions are the best, and most significant. The child learns the alphabet, and the teacher helps the child hold a pencil..... The teacher goes through a lot of hell in moulding the child, and the child hates the teacher for the act! A gratitude which the child would be able to understand only as years progress!

Once his mathematical tables are all set and his cursive writing looks legible, and his additions and subtractions and multiplications are all mastered, once he knows where India is on the map, and that the earth is part of the solar system with nine planets, the RSKite moves on from Primary School onto the Junior School.... at B Sector, for Classes VI, VII and VIII, sections A through F. Here he learns algebra, quadratic equations, history, civics, geography, languages in detail, and still sticks to general sciences.

This done, the RSKite enters the Main school, to take up classes IX, X, XI and XII, all sections. She learns trigonometry, Set theory, logarithms, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and sets foot on the laboratories..... and performs experiments.... and projects. She slowly starts getting moulded into a knowledgeable human, and knows what is what.... and why things happen. The RSKite, at the end of the Main School cycle, has become a moulded person all set to take on a professional world. With laboratories that would be any student's envy, and facilities that would be equal to the class in internationally renowned schools, the school offers the student more than what is required to be learnt. It lets the student in on all the good things that she wishes to learn..... and think above the academically prescribed books.

The school rests on a huge campus, and has well furnished and well lit classrooms, and a huge play ground. Each of the other sectors also has a play ground of its own. With well stacked libraries and beautiful gardens and well attended restrooms, and lunching facilities, the school offers everything that a student needs. A separate music room, and computer department, and school buses that ply to various locations in the city, good extra-curricular activities and strong and healthy competition among the students make way for all round development.

One of the main pillars of the school has been the active Old Students Association of RSK. The OSA is a strong organization with members of the alumni still maintaining strong links with the school. And among that category also falls this batch, the Class Of 96... which passed out of XII in 1996.

Activities that make RSK different

LDA - The Literary and Debating Association, or the LDA, holds regular activities in elocution, oratory, writing, painting, singing, dance, music, art, acting, debating, and other cultural activities like dumb charades, quizzing and Variety Entertainment, amidst others. Every week, one hour of class time is set apart for LDA.

PT Period - The Physical training Sessions at RSK are among the best, with a choice among basketball, football, cricket, volleyball, throwball, hockey, and a lot of others. With trained Physical Instructers, this was the best play-time at school. With a massive playground that is also anyone's envy, RSK has nothing left lacking.

Picnics - Every year, each class, accompanied by the Class Teacher and some associated teachers, go on a picnic to some interesting locations. Locations get better and farther as classes grow. Picnics for the Primary are to Deer Park in the BHEL campus, and to around Tanjore, and Madurai to visit the sites of arcaeological importance. In the Junior School, picnics can be of two-day durations, and may be to places like Chennai, Velankanni, Valparai, and even Thekkadi. Places like Ooty, Kodaikanal, Kerala, Bangalore are visited in the Main School. Normally, the school bus takes the students.

Culturals - RSK is an active participant, and almost always a winner in the Cultural competitions held in and around the city by other schools, and colleges, and organizations. Some of the more prestigious ones include Campofez by Campion School, Mahamela by Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya, and competitions held by the Clubs at REC Trichy.

OSA - The OSA is a club of alumni who strongly believe in giving back to the school what they received from it. Hence, there is a close triangular interaction between the school and the alumni and the students. Student related activities include 'Awareness camps', Entrance exam coaching, model entrance tests, career counselling courses, intra-house culturals, etc. Almost all members of the Classof96 are members of the OSA. It was under the leadership of members from this batch, that RSK's best ever culturals show, OSCAR'99 was held.

Sports Day - The RSK Sports Day has always been something unique to the school. With the three houses, Montfort, Bosco and Gabriel pitted against each other in healthy combat, RSK's Sports Days have produced many proud sportstars, like Anand Natarajan who got to represent India in various fora around the world. The magnificent fortress that used to prop up the Sports Day no longer commands the days, and one really misses that magic of old. The physical exercises including the lotus formation and the fire drill and the goose march and kolaattam drill, all add to the grandeur that sets off right from the magnificent March Past through the Finals, and on to the displays.

Parents' Day - Another jewel from an RSK page is the Parents' Day. The day is filled with extravagance as RSKites go on to flaunt their talents. A fairy tale evening, it is also the day when deserving candidates are honoured. With music, and drama, and prizes, and achievements, the Parents' Day is the day when the school glitters in public view.

Old Students' Reunion - There is a day when all alumni of the school converge to physically relive the days of yore..... at the Reunion. Every year..... Games, and sports, and talent shows are all part of the day.

OSCAR - Old Students' Celebration At RSK. The official state level Inter-school cuturals which aims to provide a College level decent cultural platform for all school students, has been the flagship activity of projecting RSK to the outside by OSA. OSCAR is held once every two years.

Facilities - The facilities one enjoys at the school are never experienced in a contemporary school. With airy classrooms, with each classroom having a well laid out cupboard, and bulletin boards, black board, and fans and tubelights, the students have a conducive learning atmosphere. Well stocked libraries and well equipped laboratories make RSK the first choice. With consistently good results, the school has never had a problem as far as results go.

Boarding - The boarding facility, the pride of RSK for a long long time, now has been closed due to unavoidable reasons. But when operational, it could hold about 40 students, with very good facilities and a mega-hit mess.

Teachers - The main attraction to RSK is the teaching community attached to it. A dedicated staff that is about 300 strong, they offer the best of services to see that the students under their care are moulded well enough to take on the world.
