Class of 96

The Class of 96 is one of the stronger batches that has passed out of school. With a membership of 96 members (as on Feb 06, 2003), the largest among any of the yahoogroups dedicated to batches of RSK Alumni, the group began with a humble beginning - 5 friends used to share news items in a mail with a 'reply to all' option. Slowly this led to one of them thinking, 'why not have more of our batchmates in, and have a bigger group?' At that instant evolved a dream.... in 2000......

With a membership spread truly across the globe, with at least 40 members in USA alone, the group is also among RSK's most successful groups. Our batchies are in the rolls of Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Philips, Texas Instruments and a host of other world renowned companies. Our members have done Post Graduate studies in several reputed universities in America and India, and are also pursuing higher studies in several universities in Europe. The USA is the single largest concentration of RSKites from the batch of 1996 outside India. In India, Bangalore and Madras, apart from Trichy, have huge concentrations of the Class of 96 (CONS). Today, you would see the CONS as successful businesspeople, in the navy, as successful professionals, and law enforcers.... you name it, and you have it!

Our CONS, after school, had gone on to several leading Undergraduate institutions, and went on to make marks of themselves. We had our fair share in the REC's and IIT's and BITS Pilani and Anna University.... and also in other professional colleges. But the single largest concentration was at Shanmugha College of Engineering, Tanjore.

The dream was strong..... and was lasting long..... so, when Vijay woke up, he still remembered it. So, with the team of Vinod and Dev and Sriram, the CONS were searched fiercely, and their email IDs collected. The team worked night and day literally (with Vijay and Dev in India, and Vinod in the US) to get as many addresses and to send out mailers to join the group. Surprisingly, not one request was turned down! The membership slowly grew and soon reached double figures, and started growing by tens...... The score of 50 was soon touched. A strict code of conduct was also enforced that the group would be free of spam mails and unnecessary forwards, even though that would bring down the number of mails on the Group. We had a purpose, and enjoying jokes was not the most important of them..... The Group was set more to share moments and memories from School, to share a laugh from personal experiences rather than from Kushwant Singh's joke books.....to share technical knowledge, and also to be of help to batchmates. To this day, not one spam mail has been on the group's mailbox...... This is standing testimony to the respect the CONS has to each other's time and money.

During the organization of OSCAR 2K+1, CONS sponsored with a contribution of nearly Rs 10,000 - a huge amount for a fledgling group! The group has also helped organize Fiesta 2002 at RSK. Many an information on recruitment keeps pouring out on the postings, and many have been benefitted by it. Other classified help is also possible, especially in settling down in new places, like when one moves from India to the US.

Today, with a membership inching towards the century mark, the CONS webpage is a fitting tribute to the willingness of the Group to remain together come whatever...
