~ Monday the 30th ~
Worked-in then did some trotting through the bending
poles. Started cantering back beside the poles and then through
one, two etc until we went through the whole thing back. After he
was doing well with that, we started cantering up. On this one
pole he wouldn't turn! So we had to keep doing that until he did.
Once he was going well up we went through the whole thing at canter!
He went well up then not back so we kept going through until we got a
nice run.
~ Sunday the 29th ~
It was too stormy to ride.
~ Saturday the 28th
~
We went down to the beach in the rain. He was
looking a bit at things on the ground and spooking a little bit at
things. We went down to an access to get down to the beach, once
we got to it he turned around and bolted! He went down the reserve
and down the gravel road, I was trying to stop him but he wouldn't
listen! I knew asking him to stop with the reins was helpless so I
started using my voice, and that did the trick! He slowed and I
dismounted (I probably wouldn't have dismounted if I was on an older
horse) because I was freaked out and if I was still on him he would have
recognised that and probably would play up etc. I walked him down
the beach (using the access he bolted at) and after about 10 minutes I
mounted again and walked up to a bird sanctuary, trotted back down the
beach and then walked home.
~ Friday the 27th ~
Day Off.
~ Thursday the 26th
~
Went down to the beach with Adele and Titch to do
conditioning but Red did a pig jump once so we decided to get the horses
used to going away from each other and being left behind. We did
"leaps" when I would walk, Adele would trot past then walk, I
would trot past then walk etc. He was really good at that, didn't
want to follow Titch or stop at her.
~ Wednesday the 25th
~
We practiced the bending race with Adele and Titch
and Red was being so naughty! He
did a little pig jump once and tried to take off a couple of times.
I did the race by myself a couple of times and then another with
Titch, she was going slowly and he was fine so we finished.
~ Tuesday the 24th ~
We
went to the beach with Adele and Titch.
He was quite good but spooked at this piece of wood on the way
there. We did these
exercises of each of us going away from the other then cantering back.
Red really wanted to go with Titch when she left but stood still
most of the time. When it
was our turn to go he was good and the cantering back was wonderful!
It wasn’t an “I want to get back to Titch really fast”
canter, it was really nice and controlled!
We did this tiny log and bank, we just walked over it but on the
way back down towards Titch he took off but only like three strides and
then walked again.
~ Monday the 23rd ~
Day
Off.
~ Sunday the 22nd ~
Today I took Red to Pony Club
and he was the best behaved in our group!
First we did circles at walk and trot mainly focusing on our positions.
We did walking and trotting without stirrups, me and Red just walked
because I had never done work without stirrups with him but we did some
sitting trot with stirrups. After that we did some turn on the forehand
but I did it on the ground. Then we did some decreasing and increasing
of the circle, but the instructor didn't want me to do a too small
circle so we didn't do much.
After lunch we did some cross country work - we don't have a cross
country course so we just went through the river, up a hill and then
down and up a couple of banks. When we were back, we did a couple of
games - walk, trot, barrel and bending races.
On the ride home, he spooked at a dog (luckily no traffic coming), and
about 1/2 an hour later this miniature horse galloped up to us so went
cantering down the rode but I stopped him after about 6 strides.
Was fine the rest of the way.
~ Saturday the 21st
~
Rode
him down to the pony club!
~ Friday the 20th ~
Day
Off.
~ Thursday the 19th
~
Worked-in,
then a couple of circles at walk and trot.
We then cantered but not for very long at a time since I only
wanted to canter on straight lines and not bend.
Did some poles and then trotted over the cross rail poles on the
ground. I put it up to
about a 35cm cross rail then did it twice.
The first time he knocked it down and the second popped over it
nicely.
~ Wednesday the 18th
~
Worked-in,
then cantered on the lunge, he bucked on the transitions a couple of
times and was being naughty! I
tried canter with me riding him down one side of the paddock - first
time he didn’t really canter and the second and last time he cantered
about 3-5 strides (until the fence really).
~ Tuesday the 17th ~
Went well.
Did a couple of circles at walk and trot but it wasn’t very
good because I didn’t have a circle marked out.
Walked and trotted over one pole and then did a short
‘course’. A couple of
the turns were tight so after two times over the course I took the turns
out a bit and added another pole (five in total).
Trotted over it twice more, last one was really good!
Been on holiday.
~ Monday the 9th ~
Was
a bit spooky, thought he was going to take off at one stage.
Did some canter on the lunge.
~ Sunday the 8th ~
Practised the bending race and three mug race at walk and trot.
~ Saturday the 7th ~
Exercise at beach.
~ Friday the 6th ~
Day Off.
~ Thursday the 5th ~
Same as Wednesday.
~ Wednesday the 4th
~
Good work-in. Six walk circles, started increasing the circle!
He started anticipating the transitions though. Walked down to the
reserve then trotted a bit down. Went off the bank and trotted
down the beach over a small log!
~ Tuesday the 3rd ~
Nice work-in but once he didn't want to turn at trot so we had to go
down to walk. Did six walk circles and two at trot. Getting
a tiny bit faster for the transitions. Walked down to the reserve
then walked back. Also, it was raining!
~ Monday the 2nd ~
Only came down to a walk twice in work-in. Did six circles and the
transitions are becoming faster.
~ Sunday the 1st ~
I was at a friends house and didn't have enough time to lunge. I
rode him in the paddock, work-in. He didn't maintain the trot all
the time so will be working on that. Did six walk circles (around
the outside of the pen). Also a couple of transitions (only
trotted twice). |
