~ Thursday the 31st
~
It was raining so we didn't do any work.
~ Wednesday the 30th
~
Circles ok. Leg yielding and turn on the forehand good. In
the canter circles he always canters fast so today we did more work at
the end to slow it down a bit. Could only get a fraction of the
circle.
~ Tuesday the 29th ~
Circles better, leg yielding great and so is turn on the forehand!
30cm upright once - perfect, 35cm cross-rails (two stride double) once -
perfect!
~ Monday the 28th ~
Walk/trot/canter circles are ok. He kept moving his inside
leg on the left rein with turn of the forehand but was perfect of the
right! Leg yielding ok - better on the left rein than right.
~ Sunday the 27th ~
Had a sleep-over last night as it's my birthday tomorrow so I had no
time to ride.
~ Saturday the 26th
~
Went along the beach and jumped the branch twice. Then went up
near the sea and cantered along and back again. Sometimes he
veered inwards so I swapped the whip over. After we were cantering
we galloped back! (Well I think we were galloping.) It was
awesome because he slowed down as soon as I asked him to!
~ Friday the 25th ~
Day Off.
~ Thursday the 24th
~
Going much better with walk/trot/canter circles. Didn't go too
well turn on the forehand as he kept moving his inside leg. Was
going great with leg yielding as I read a bit about it from a different
book than I had before. Did the double well on about the 3rd
attempt but I wanted to jump a bit more so I put up a cross-country type
jump. (Some upright boards.) He kept jumping the edge
because I wouldn't let him run out! Eventually finished by leading
him over.
~ Wednesday the 23rd
~
Walk/trot/canter cirlces going ok. Turn on the forehand good and
we started leg yielding at walk!
~ Tuesday the 22nd ~
Walk/trot/canter circles are all right so is turn on the forehand.
Took awhile to clear the double but stopped once we had.
~ Monday the 21st ~
After we did the walk and trot circles we cantered around the arena and
then a circle. Turn on the forehand ok.
~ Sunday the 20th ~
Walk and trot circles not great as he drifted in a bit. Started
cantering around the arena, a bit fast though. Put up a double -
two cross-rails at 35cm 9m apart. Too long so decreased if until
it was two strides which is 7m. Kept knocking the 2nd down,
stopped once we cleared it.
~ Saturday the 19th
~
Down the beach over a branch twice then cantered along the beach twice.
(Was a bit strong!)
Been away in Nelson.
~ Sunday the 13th ~
Gymkhana Day! He went so well! (Alot better than I
expected!) You can take a look at the results
~ Saturday the 12th
~
Day off before the gymkhana.
~ Friday the 11th ~
He was going much better today! We even cantered a bit of the
poles. We practised the races that we did yesterday and also part
of the obstacle course. I led him over the bridge width-ways but
then my instructor showed me how to do it because he was banging into me
a bit. She got him walking over nicely so then I did it twice then
rode over twice! We then did some jumping - trotting poles and a
small cross-rail. The other had a back pole behind the cross-rail
which was 60cm and the instructor asked if I wanted to do it but I
thought it was a bit high because he's still 3. We did the
trotting poles and small cross-rail then a 55cm cross-rail!
~ Thursday the 10th
~
We practised the bending racess, walk, trot and walk trot lead, also the
barrel race and he always wanted to go to Titch though. After
lunch we did a little jumping. We did some trotting poles and an
approx. 30cm cross-rail.
~ Wednesday the 9th
~
Rode to Pony Club because there is a gymkhana practise on thursday and
friday.
~ Tuesday the 8th ~
Wasn't really listening to me. Jumped a 40cm cross-rail and a 45cm
upright! He kept knocking down the 35cm upright but only when we
had just done the 30cm cross-rail.
~ Monday the 7th ~
Started cantering the paddock and that went ok. We then did the
bending and he went perfectly! After bending we walked, trotted
with a bit of canter through the barrels.
~ Sunday the 6th ~
Was working well. Bent nicley in the circles, started canter
circles but he kept drifting out. Did a pole twice then a 30cm
upright - knocked it down on the 1st and 3rd attempts. Then put up
a 35cm upright and jumped it better than the other! (Probably
because the 30cm was a bit flimsy.)
~ Saturday the 5th ~
Went down to the beach. Walked and trotted.
~ Friday the 4th ~
Day Off.
~ Thursday the 3rd ~
This was one of a worst sessions. He wasn't really listening to my
leg on one side of the circle and wouldn't bend properly like on
Tuesday. I got quite angry with him but after awhile I calmed down
a bit and we did the half he wasn't doing so well good. That
wasn't the bad part. He did turn on the forehand ok but was like
Tuesday. Our jumping was horrible! I put some trotting poles
out and he trotted over them bad a couple of times and then great two
times! I then popped over a 30cm cross-rail really well! I
put up a horizontal bar - big mistake! He kept knocking it over,
not even trying sometimes. Even ran out twice. I took him
back to the cross-rail because of it and kept knocking that over too!
After he hadn't knocked it over like twice, I put up a lower horizontal
bar 9m away from the cross-rail. Same as the other horizontal bar!
He destroyed the jump because it was like a caveletto. I was in
tears at this point. I then cantered him up to the cross-rail
(knocked it completely down) and then did it again and it was perfect!
~ Wednesday the 2nd
~
Practised the bending race. He was being stupid and midding out a
pole a couple of times so we stopped after a good run (took quite a few
though).
~ Tuesday the 1st ~
Worked-in and then did some 20m circles at walk and trot. He was
going really well for that. Then we did some turn on the
forehands. At first he just did a turn around the centre but as
soon as he did it properly on both reins, I stopped. Did some
jumping after dressage. Trotted over two poles on the ground
between stands then put up a 30cm cross-rail. Went over that a few
times and he knocked it down a couple of times. Then I put up a
40cm cross-rail and he cleared it first time so I stopped!
