Travel

Travel is our passion. We love to travel. When we travel, we should have our backpacks and the Lonely Planet book or Outlook Traveler.  Otherwise, it is not fun.  Don’t you think that any resort is waste. One friend’s father calls resorts  “IT hotels”. It is pretty funny.
We would like to travel to all places in the world. Meanwhile, I have ended not even going to the Himalayas. Can you have a home loan and expensive travels? I think, that is an excuse, rather than the real cause.
Travel stories are always interesting, so I thought including some:
1.I traveled to Agra seven days after my marriage without my wife. Agra is supposed to be a romantic place, right? (We did not have a “immediately-after-marriage-honeymoon” and we are still married even after this incidence). Truth is I went to Delhi for work and Taj Mahal was an addition.
2.Went to a place called Timbuktu in Andhra Pradesh (Ananthpur district) again without my wife. Ananthpur district is the abode of naxalites and I learnt later that the place I went to was in Ananthpur district. My wife could not reach me for a night while I was there and you can imagine the tension brewing.
3.While going by train from Goa to Karnataka, while switching the train we spent around three hours or more at Londa Junction. We had the best tryst with the dogs. One of the pictures fetched us the popular choice award in our company’s photography contest.
4.We were packing to go to Bangkok for a 14 day trip. Our friend called on Wed night and we were supposed to travel on Friday. There was a military coup in Thailand. We were depressed and immediately switched our plan to go to Malaysia (the longest trip with the shortest planning). Malaysia trip was amazingly good.

Places I have visited not as an “accidental tourist” after I left for USA: Hope to write something about each place over time.
Before Marriage: east coast/west coast (standard places of pilgrimage for Indias: San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, Yosemite,  Grand Canyon, Kings Canyon, Seqouia National Park, Shenandoah, Miami, Florida), Alaska, Yellowstone, Austria (Salzburg), Germany (Munich, Nuremberg, Berlin)
After marriage:
With wife: Malaysia (Taman Negara, Cameroon Highlands, Langkawi, Kuala lumpur, Penang), Mahabalipuram, Yercaud, Coorg, Calicut, Vythri, Mysore, Belur, halebid, Shravanabelgola, Goa, Munnar
Without wife: Nagarhole, Ooty, Agra, Conoor, Timbuktu
