I have worked with herps all my life, especially snakes. Most of my "pets" were usually wild caught serpents. Wen I was about six, if my parents weren't yelling at me for playing with the baby rattlers, they were telling me to let the poor king snake or garter snake go so it could live in the wild where it belongs. It has been a while since then and I now have some snakes of that I can really call my own.
I'll give you a brief insight on how I came to start this small business. I started working at my local pet store last year, then I had one snake. Since then my collection quickly grew and I obtained several more snakes, particularly ball pythons. After I got my first snake I fell in love with the species and couldn't help but get more.
I decided to launch this program as part of the senior project at my high school. It seemed like the perfect thing to do, and I have most of the resourses I need at my place of employment. While it may not be the biggest business in the world, I'm not in it for the money. I'm doing this for the love of the animal.
I currently run out of a spare bedroom in my house using some small breeding racks that I designed myself. It's not the best looking thing in the world I will admit to you, but it gets the job done just as good as any of those top-of-the-line breeding racks. I love my snakes and take care of them like they were my children. I really hope to expand this business in oncoming years, and hopefully it will help alleviate some of those pricey college funds.
