The outstanding group of 212 military living historians that participated portrayed the 86th Illinois Volunteer Infantry of Fearing's brigade - 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 14th Army Corps) under the superb leadership of Dom dal Bello and Steve Dunfee (oh, and our own Duke was the adjutant; Slim the company commander; and our pard Bill Watson the sergeant major... Stumpy was some superfluous officer... ;^). We marched 10 miles from a farm house owned by the Tart family to the event site. And we must mention the fantastic work done by Mia Graham and Joyce Demattis in organizing a superior group of dedicated civilian living historians as part of this effort. They were fantastic.
We raised $8,318.03. These funds were divided between Bentonville, Averasboro, and McDowell, Va (60% - 20% - 20% respectively).
John Goode wrote: "The donation to Bentonville came to $4,990.98. BBHA has already encumbered those funds to assist with the acquisition of sixteen acres of the historic Reddick Morris Farm. The tract includes the position from which the 13th New Jersey and 82nd Illinois enfiladed the advance of Taliaferro's Division during final stages of the March 19, 1865 battle. Federal earthworks remain on the property."
If not us, who? If not now, when?
