 | We started our day at McDonald's for a cheap breakfast. We stopped at the post office
and I mailed off a stack of postcards. A quick stop back at the Route 66 Museum for a set
of Route 66 Bears and we were off. |
 | In Elk City, we stopped at another Route 66 Museum (not as
nice as the other one). |

 | Between Sayer and Erick we found some great stretches of over-grown highway. I could have easily taken an entire roll of
film!

 | The last town in Oklahoma was Texola. We
got a lot of great shots of abandoned buildings there.

 | We got to Shamrock, Texas and saw the U Drop Inn
(unfortunately it was closed). It is under renovation and will reopen one day. |

 | We saw some great restored service stations in Texas today
too. |

 | In Groom, I took a picture of Jerry with the Groom sign. We saw the Leaning Water Tower and 66 Courts.

 | We got into Amarillo and saw where Route 66 was cut off because of the
[Amarillo International] Airport.

 | We wanted to stay at the Big Texan Steak Ranch but
they didn't have any rooms--well, they had one, but it was $75.00! We had dinner at the
Big Texan. We were stuffed!! If you eat an entire 72 oz. steak dinner with all the
trimmings you can get it for free. They had one taker, but he didn't finish it.

 | We stayed at a nearby Motel 6. We were going to go to the pool, but a lightning
storm kept us out of the water. Jerry took storm pictures. |
