Engine purchased from a wrecked 2000 Alfa Romeo 166 standard flywheel HP is 235. Expected output: 300 flywheel HP when project is complete. Possibly GTA specs depends on $$ I am on the lookout for a '86 GTV6, only the body has to be in excellent condition, the motor etc can be dead, wont be using it..... I am also looking for any performance parts for a series 116 - GTV6: * Alfa 75 Turbo gearbox * Alfa 166/GTV - 4 spot brembo calipers * Koni adjustable suspension drop me a line : [email protected]
I saw a wrecked Alfa 166 about 6 months ago whilst searching for Alfa 33 parts for my brother in law. The front end have been in a bingle, the engine though was still in pretty good shape and and I thought hey, 3L 24v V6 would be a monster in a light weight car. Anyway, I suppressed the thought for a while... I guess it resurfaced..... BUT what car ? What car would have the engine bay capacity, be rear wheel drive and also be adjustable to set up for street and race use? There is only one Alfa , the 116 series GTV6. YeahI know the 75 can also be setup the same, but it looks sad, and personally doesn't do much for me . The problem is parts for the GTV6 can be a little on the tough side to locate, so the rarity of the conversion on Australian soil is a bit of a challenge to say the least.... What do I know about GTV6's anyway. Well they look great and are rear wheel drive. Months of studying followed, which year model to buy, what were the down sides to the car, ha we all know what they are....gearbox linkage and driving position. Sometime during 1985 they changed the gearbox linkage to an ISO Static linkage and they added a removable tunnel brace. The LSD was still not added to Australian vehicles though , or anywhere else that I know of. Anyway..... on with the show....

Located a suitable candidate. 1985 Silver GTV6 purchased.Previous owner changed his mind and decided to go modify Fords instead !?!?! Still in original condition but modified a bit with rough idle, rust spots and shabby interior. I wonder how much these mods would cost to redo, a motsa I reckon ! Anyway, built in Sept 85 - complied Sept 86. Beautiful.... and the price, tell em the price son! a paltry $5500 for a GTV6 !!! - but no rego. anyhow.... Best part is the body has no bog and never been in a smash, gotta love it. Original windscreen with built in antennae, original dash, seats, body, engine etc. The only real mods the car has are - Koni Yellows Adjustable front sway bar Simmons B45s - 16" Cheap ass rubber steering wheel Headlight mesh protectors - what a 70's classic! Pics are on the way.

UPDATE !! MAY 2003 Purchased a complete set of EX-Mitsubishi EVO 6 Brembo calipers, these things are massive!, 17inch rims are a must. These calipers are found as stock items on the R34GTR, Subaru STI, EVO 6 and Porsche Boxter. Serious Stuff. Front and back click - clack ! Payed for the complete set $1700.00au not bad considering the set is worth 8 grand new. Still need a set of compatible discs to suit, I have a set of front 166 discs but not too sure whether I can use them yet.. June 2003 The gearbox has just arrived from the UK. Twin Spark with the ISO linkage and sender unit, time to get it cleaned up and rebuilt to withstand the power to be put through it. Apparently the Twin Spark box with a brass button clutch and the diff simmed out will handle up to 400HP. Time will tell.
