| 6/9/08 Let me begin by appologizing that I have not had the time to update the webpage. The first three events of the year are already a memory. Poker night kept us entertained, with Mike and Gail taking home the prizes for the evening. We got going a little late, the wind was too good for a couple of sailors to come in before dark. Future events will have a bit more open start time, I don't want members to give up their fun early. Cinco De Mayo had a smaller turn out than expected, many of our friends from The Tucson Sailing Club were busy preparing boats for the long cruise from San Carlos to La Paz, but a special thanks to John & Susie Babicz for taking time out to drag Dulcinea all the way from Tucson. Last weekend was the annual Luau, we had a great turnout even though several of our "core" members were not able to make it. We have several new members join recently so make them feel welcome. Darren and Sandra, Julie, Buck, Keith and Linda have joined us and Jean has returned as a member. A new prize has been awarded to Mustang Sally for environmental conservation as well as protecting potentially endangered species. Jordan and Debbie have gained the honor of Bat Boat 2008 for housing at least 23 bats in their sails protecting them from predetors. Jordan and Debbie were honored to be recognized, but would like to see the critters move on to a larger boat perhaps a Catalina 30 on the other side of the dock. The party was a blast, and special thanks to Stephanie, Dennis, Rhonda, Joni and Debbie for the amazing decorations and helping to clean up the mess I would also like to recognize Stephanie for taking care of almost all the club functions while I have been dealing with stress at work. A temporary fare well to Fred of Sea Cutter, he is pulling his boat out for the summer but is planning to be back in September. Our next event is Independance day on Saturday, July 5. We will be doing the traditional hamburgers and hot dogs. I have updated the picture section of the website. Please e-mail any pictures that you would like to post. Thanks again to all of our members for making our club a success. Fair Winds Jason Rush Commodore Bat Boat Award 2008 Presented by Dennis Upton The RYC proudly takes this opportunity to inaugurate what we hope will not become an annual event. Nevertheless, this year's recipient now bears the responsibility of caring for his charges. And it is hoped that he will soon find a use for this award. (A small pouch emblazened with the recognizable flying bat). It is my dishonorable responsibility to present this pouch to this year's Bat Boat 2008 to the skipper and his mate of Mustang Sally: Jordan Danforth and Debbie Gallvan. This dubious award was presented during the Luau on June 7, 2008, by Dennis Upton, skipper of Olympian, and his mate Marie Kuhlman. >>Next Page |
