Welcome to Ron & Carol Long's Web Page

Picture of the Week

It has been nearly three weeks since the first typhoon roared through the area we live.   Two weeks ago another typhoon hit north of us, left the Philippines, did a u-turn and returned.   Presently over 700 have died, while many remain missing due to landslides.   Food in some areas is becoming scarce while the cost of vegetables has skyrocketed.   A kilo (a little over 2 pounds) of carrots costs $7.00.   For many the needs are desperate.   For some they still have a house, but nothing else.   These pictures were taken following the initial typhoon. Several in the Faith community were impacted by the storm.   Yet a common theme when speaking with any of these dear folks is that they are alive and have a community to lend support, while others have perished or have no one to help them.
Near the end of that initial week work groups were sent out from campus to not only help Faith folks but to go out in the general community and be servants.   The first day nearly 250 people volunteered.   The following day with threats of the second typhoon bearing down an additional fifty showed up.   These pictures show the house of Sharon our librarian.   Her house was flooded with not just water and mud but oil.   She is now looking for a new house.

SEND International has established a "Philippine Flood Relief" fund to help those who are victims of the floods last week.   If you are led of the Lord to give just write your check to "SEND International" earmarked "Philippine Flood Relief" and mail to SEND International, Box 513, Farmington, MI 48332.   Any money that's given will be distributed by our local SEND Area Council to churches and people who are most in need.
