Day Three. Hike to Kibo and summit attempt.
This time I decided to wear jeans and the jacket because it can get quite cold on the way to Kibo. The first section is mostly up hill but after that u get to a mostly flat desert section and then the saddle area, after that there is an uphill section just as you are about to reach the Kibo huts which really takes a lot out of you and I had to stop every now and then to catch my breath, and this one kid who I was walking nearly all the way with couldn't make it, and had to be helped up by the porters. As we sat in the Kibo Huts more and more people started to arrive some by their own power and some being dragged up by the porters. A lot of people were in no shape to make the summit attempt, some were just tired some were freezing and others were suffering from altitude sickness.

After dinner I put on all the stuff I would be wearing for the summit attempt and went to sleep, this included a T-shirt, 2 sweaters, a jacket, woolen trousers, jeans, and a track trousers as a wind shield, gloves, balaclava, a hat, 2 pairs of socks and later on my Caterpillar Walking machine boots.

The Summit Attempt
We were supposed to start our summit attempt at midnight, but because we had such a huge group and every one took their time to get ready we started the attempt at about 1:30 am. It didn't take long for people to start dropping out, I wasn't really keeping count I was just trying to breath.

The head guide was trying to make up for lost time and was taking us at a very fast pace so we could reach Gilman's on time and then continue to Uhuru, after a while some of us couldn't keep up with the pace so we decided to go at our own slower pace and just reach Gilman's.

By the time the sun came up there were 2 groups the lead group which was of about 7 people and my group which was of 3 people. Each of us was was climbing with his own technique, I chose to take very small steps and stop to breathe very 5 tepsor so,another guy chose to run a few feet than he would collapse and literally fall asleep! than he would start over.

To make matters worse the route is mainly scree so u end up taking a step back for every few you mave forward. And because of the steepness you have to climb in a zigzag patern, this was very discouraging because you have to walk a lot to cover a small distance.

Our guide was not helpful at all, first he a started to discourage us by saying we were gonna die up there and there was no one to carry us down but we just ignored him, and later on we were left with no guide to point the way to Gilman's point and I had to figure out the way by my self, this lead to 3 wrong attempts, including one where Ii ended up in a spot people use as a toilet(Africas Highest!) until finally I climbed over a rock and there was the sign "You are now at Gilman's point" and our guide who was taking his rest right under it.

I had been climbing for nearly 9 hours, and for all that time it was a huge mental struggle and when I finally reached Gilman's I had nothing left. I stayed for about 10min took a few pics and started going back down to Kibo.
