Vestal Little League History, Vestal, NY
The 1973 Season
The Vestal Little League opened its 23rd season of play on May 19, 1973. The Annual Little League parade included several High School Bands, including Vestal's own Golden Bears, both African Road Junior High and Central Junior High Bands, Honor Guards from Vestal Post 89 and Endicott Post 1449, the Continental Fife & Drum Corps, and the Vestal Wranglers. The whole Vestal Town Board participated, and the special guest was Ralph Branca, former pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and most notably known for giving up Bobby Thompson's World Series winning home run, when the NY Giants beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1951.

In the seaon ending Little League action, the Minor League Title was played Friday at 6pm with Pioneer Cable besting Lee Knowles 8-6, with A.F. Elias getting the pitching victory in relief. The 8pm game was the Major League Championship were Carsons defeated Westons 5-4, and Steve Kershner picked up the victory in relief.
Wednesday's games saw the West Minor Stars edge out the East 8-7 in 7 innings. John Bogaczyk was the winning pitcher. The late game saw the West Major's All-Stars cruise past the East 10-2, with Dave Bergin of Post 89 getting the win.
The Annual Managers-Umpires Softball Benefit game was won by the managers 12-9. Will Lewis did the pitching and Bill Derkach had 2 homeruns for the managers. The Umpires were led by Olin Henneman's hitting, including a home run.
