A SEASON RE-PLAYED 1972 |
The 1972 Vestal Little League season was highlighted by the All-Star action of the VESTAL WEST All-Stars, otherwise known as GARLOCK & COMPANY. Anchored by the strong pitching and hitting of Brian Baldwin, Steve Garlock, and Doug Kaschak, the Vestal West All-Stars overpowered their opponents in District 7 play, and Sectional play. Their road to Williamsport ended though, in the NY State final, with a loss to NEW CITY. |

VESTAL NEWS ARTICLE
The Vestal West All-Stars were slated to leave this Thursday afternoon to participate in the Upstate NY Little League Tournament to be held Friday in Hornell. The Vestal squad will play its first game at 5pm on Friday. The time of Saturdays game has not been determined. The four teams are the winning clubs from the Buffalo Area, Albany Area, Central NY Area, and Southeastern NY Area. The Vestal West All-Stars moved 2 notches closer to the State crown by winning their 6th and 7th consecutive games this past week. Saturday they beat Fairport (Rochester Area) 3-2, following a 9-2 win over Lake Delta (Rome Area) on July 27th. Playing at Angelo Field, manager Joe Igo's crew got a 2 hit pitching performance by Doug Kaschak, who chalked up 10 K's. Vestal's big guns unloaded in the 4th inning scoring 7 runs. The big blow was a bases loaded double by Steve Garlock and a 2 run double by Mike Tyra. Garlock also homered in the 5th inning, his 6th homerun in as many games. Vestal's Stars fought their way into this weekends tourney by defeating Fairport behind the pitching and hitting of Brian Baldwin. Down 2-0 going into the 5th inning, Vestal bounced back with 2 runs. Baldwin broke the deadlock in the 6th when he blasted a 1-0 pitch over the left centerfield wall. Baldwin's 4th playoff homerun gave him his 4th playoff pitching victory. He gave up 4 hits and struck out 8. |

Fund raising game nets hundreds of dollars This years annual fund raising game netted hundreds of dollars to aid victims of a Vestal house fire. The Annual Slow-Pitch Softball game pitting League Managers and Officials against the Umpiring Crew was played before a large crowd Friday evening at Angelo Field. The Managers/Officials team downed the Umpires 22-5. Proceeds from the event and refreshment stand were donated to the Eugene McCarthy family of Powderhouse Road, whose home was destroyed by fire last month while they were attending a Little League Game. An estimated $300 - $400 dollars was raised. The game was enjoyable for fans and players. There were plenty of hits, diving plays, bobbles here and there, and lots of laughs. League president Rich Daubenmire set the pace with 2 home runs. Umpiring this softball game were 12 year old Little League All Star players. |
