Spiritual Terminology
Prayascitta: atonement , expiation of an evil deed by certain sacrificial acts in concordance with scriptural injunctions
Rajas: the quality of activity , passion, unrest
Sadhna: means to secure appropriate ends ; spiritual effort towards perfection
Samadhi: the super-concious state of realization of Brahman , the target of spiritual discipline.
Samsara: the eternal activity in the manifested universe in toto , subject to the realm of Maya.
Samskara: latent mental tendency or inclination, acquired through past experience of any kind.
Sat-Cit-Ananda: Existence-Counciousness-Bliss; the term signifying the nature of the Nirguna Brahman  adopted by the Sruti and emphasized by the Advaitic school of thought.
Sattva: the quality of goodness, light and calm
Sastra: the whole body of sacred teachigs as established in the sruti , smrirti , and the recognized comentaries of post Vedic techers.
Sraddha: Faith; reliance on and self-surrender to the Deity.
Sruti: the canonical scriptures of the hindus the belief in whose authority is the incumbent on and common to all hindus.
Smrti: the canonical tradition, next in importance to the sruti only, its injunction are to be followed wherever they are consistent with the latter.
