"i think the younger you are, the easier it is to fall in love...i suppose it comes from innocence -- less experience with a broken heart makes it easier to use a heart fully. and why not give your heart away at thirteen? with everything else that goes on in middle school, it's not difficult to get it back. not to say that at 18, i'm an old hat in matters of the heart, but to me it seems more weighty an emotion to give in to. influenced by hollywood and the ideals of classical novels, not to mention the radio lovesongs, i don't want to end up trying to get my heart back any time soon."

"one of my favorite expressions of love has nothing to do with me. on the way to brattleboro, vermont, we drive underneath a bridge on which somone spray painted his proposal, "marry me", in giant letters for everyone to read. it makes me happy every time."

wake up screaming, issue one - 1/4 size, 20 pages, $1

Words. Stuck, pasted, glued, and sewn together from a month of Caity's life. Then they were typed, printed, glued, photocopied and stapled, and made into a pretty booklet with a picture on the cover. The insides, though (those words I was telling you about) are sometimes not so pretty, but entirely worth reading.

"i want to open my mouth and scream lightning or fire, or maybe a few misguided words, but i just keep singing, hoping that someone else's words from my mouth might change me somehow. but, you see? i'm the same now. i'll never change like that.

This Water Spark #1/2 / This Water Spark #1 - both 1/4 size, 20 pages / 28 pages, $1

These two zines come as a package deal. Issue #1/2 was written over the course of a bad week in Marissa's life, and she made it a seperate zine in order for the writing in it to not overshadow the writings of Issue #1. Issue #1 deals with the effects of her break-up with her long term boyfriend and the new relationship that follows.

1/2: "staring out the window, like tonight, at the glittering lights so far below, trying so hard to fill up the gorge, singing along so hard as i can, but letting my eyes glaze over. i talk about that a lot. i want something to break open. i wish for my heart to split just a little bit, the way it does sometimes.

1: "but all the polaroids are creased with longevity and blurry with too-quickly passing time and shuffled together in my haste to find some showbox in a dusty corner. they're rested there now, resting in messy piles, and i can dig one out for you, but it's different. i can tell you how i felt, but i can't feel it anymore."
