The Art and Science of Images

Virtual Reality

Using special software multiple digital images can be stitched together to produce some very interesting results. One way of doing that is seen below with the panoramic image of Niagara Falls. Using such a technique I could place a model in a complete environment, or multiple times into a scene that includes an entire room, for example.

Another technique, the one I would like to experiment with, is the creation of virtual reality figure studies. I have constructed a special stool designed to allow me to rotate a model in 10 degree increments. (Below is the results of my first test of this device.) This would be a very demanding shoot for a model, requiring holding a pose for 10 to 20 minutes as I shoot 36 images, rotating her 10 degrees between images. If you are capable of doing so, however, I believe the results could be quite amazing.

When the image above has loaded, click on it and drag sideways to rotate the statue.
